Buck, SOG Fasthawk, Kershaw, Colt, Imperial, Bear

Post by trammway » Sun Nov 27, 2011 6:40 am

Hi Folks,

I've got a SOG fast hawk axe that has the handle made with high tech composite material and a pair of Boone and Crockett Club Collector's Series Buck foldable knives for this thanksgiving. Here is the pictures of my new addition, I would like to ask the experts here, between Buck and Gerber brands which one is preferred.

I selected Buck as it was made in USA and the Gerber one was made in China label. Though I'm not pro USA or China, just to have some thing distinct from all other made in China product.

The Buck knives were packed in a nice presentable tin box and the pictures of SOG and Buck for your views

Hi Mark, I just got them from Walmart, it was kind of very good deal. When everyone was running for electronics on the 10pm sale I grabbed these tools

Also, here is a really good link to axes, and how to use and care for them:

I think IFG got some lucky star when I posted the message yesterday, as a result today I have grabbed a Puma 265 (Made in Germany) model knife. ;-)

Puma 265

Post by trammway » Mon Nov 28, 2011 8:13 pm

Folks,

This is the Puma knife (pre-owned and sharpened) that I have got yesterday. There is an issue with the knife as the previous owner has sharpened the knife with some non-professional knife smith. This has resulted uneven marks on the blade but the knife is razor sharp. Is there any way we could remove these markings ?

You can use a fine grit sandpaper and buff the scratches, it will also give it a satin finish. Nice knife.

Trammway,

Here is a pipc of a knife that had received a similar treatment to yours:
Image

The best thing I have found to do when items have been ground is to sandblast them, using a grit range of 100 to 240, and blend everything together that way. The only other thing you can really do is remove all the metal and with something as small as a pocketknife you will change the shape of the blade by the time you remove enough metal to blend everything together. Use plenty of masking tape on the handle to protect it, but find someone with a sandblaster or that does "glass beading". Your blade should take about 5 minutes to give a matte finish and get rid of the marks.
