Advice on buying Benchmade knife online

Post by Rrahulkumar » Sun Jun 29, 2014 3:42 pm

Hi

I was browsing eBay.in and found a listing for Benchmade folder combo offer

It seems a throwaway price but I'm skeptical it may either be a ripoff or bad quality

I checked few other sites and understood the model listed here are discontinued.
I also found it was originally prices about $5 when it was in production

It's a mere 1000 bucks but I wanted your advise

The link is below

Note:- I'm going to ask for more advise here so buckle up fellow IFGians

Is there any guarantee that they are genuine Benchmade?

As mentioned, unfortunately those are fakes.

For starters, every benchmade folder that I know of comes in a box and in a small fabric bag:

And not any sort of blister packaging. So if you ever see one being sold in a blister package rest assured it is a fake.

Another way to check them out is the Benchmade butterfly symbol will have the model number in very small numbers and sometimes letters at the bottom of the wings.

If you are ever curious about the authenticity of a benchmade knife, check these two items first. If you see the model number in the butterfly then compare it to images you can pull up online to see if it is identical to those.

The knife may still be fake, but those 2 things can weed out the majority of the cheap ones.

I own a couple of benchmade folders, and I have been carrying the model 710 folder for almost a year now so I should get ambitious one of these days and post a review of it. Hopefully before the New Year. :)

Don't buy from ebay. Never never never never. Says the guy who has burnt his fingers (hell, the entire arm!!).

Amazon is better, but they don't ship many "desirable objects" to India (knives, electronic and gun-shaped toys, even fresnel lenses and camping gear!).

The best service I have experienced is knifecenter. They are probably the most expensive of the lot. You can rest assured, though, that the knives will be 100% genuine.
Cheers!

I bought most of my folders from ebay.com and got it shipped to people coming for a trip as it accepts my debit card and I don't need to go through that address on the card and shipping address difference hassle. Hope you understand what I mean. What kind of bad experience you had with ebay?

In one word - fakes. At that time I was not part of IFG so didn't have a team of experts to fall back upon. The only halfway decent knife I got from ebay was a Tramontina machete. Shipped from Brazil, not PRC. Maybe that was the reason this was good. Most of the others were from PRC or its adjuncts.
Cheers!

I guess I have been lucky and I am sure none of mine are fakes (except obviously the fakes I bought  )

I guess maybe that's not the case anymore. I look for users review and a fake knife complaint would always be a deal braker

Had the exact knife from ebay. Not bad for price. Steel is crappy though, won't hold an edge for a day but very compact and good shape. Gave it to a friend. We used to call it "Bhanchmade"
