One last question. Am I correct that .40 S&W is a NON PROHIBITED bore.
IN other words. A sig P226 PISTOL USING .40 cartridges is a NON PROHIBITED firearm right?

.40 S&W is not PB. Remember, even if you can bring it on TR and get a license for it, you cannot take it out of the country unless for repairs.All the best and let us know how it went. The worse that can happen if you fail to get a license is, the customs will keep it until you go back.

Finally my ARMS Licence is in the mail. Mighty excited

I have recently fancied getting a Tokarev TT-33 and was wondering if the cartridge 7.62 x 25mm is considered PB or NPB in India.

I am getting very confused with what is PB and NPB. If anybody can kindly point me a post which clearly mentions about Cartridges in calibers that are NPB it will be a great help.

The Tokarev is a cool toy but a you might run into issues with repair if trouble arises.

If you don't have gun smithing experience I'd recommend sticking to the Glock.

Good luck with the process - my advise stick with known calibers such as 32 ACP - would recommend CZ 83, or SIG P 232 380, Beretta Cheetah, Glock also hasa 380 . In the wheel guns Charter arms has a 32 revolver or 357 revolver in Smith and wesson.

Hello folks,

Good news or not, I am not sure but I could not resist myself and just purchased a beautiful .38 special made by Taurus. It is in as brand new condition as the owner just shot 50 rounds through it and kept it in the safe for like 15 years well good for me…right

The bluing is great and feels so awesome, i cannot say that in words.

It has an adjustable trigger screw and its both single action and double action.

I am now confused weather I should get this one while I come back to India on TR or my .40 S&W that I just ordered but will be a while till I receive it.

Hi, I tried to post a new topic, but could not, I am new to forum. Me, wife and two sons have firearm licences in USA, we are planning to TR to India end of next year. How many guns we can bring home? Can you guys recommend a 12 gauge, .22 and couple of handguns for using in India? Is there any limit on airgun? What is the best airgun for useing there. Thanks

one gun per family on TR. If you are coming next year then guns you own are the only ones you can select from.This is because guns have to be owned for atleast 1 year or more before TR. Only good gun one cant buy in India is a nice shotgun. Unless you want to take a 22 rile - not a bad choice either ammo easily available great plinking rifle. Or one of your handguns it all depends whats your need and objective in india self defense, shooting etc. Most important thing is getting gun license sorted out in India either before or as soon as you land. good luck my info is more of here say others can chime in

"one gun per family on TR." I am afraid that most people returning on TR (including me) have been misinformed by this. The Customs people had been enforcing the rule as "One gun per family". In 2002, One Dr. Diwakar Kattar fought this issue by going to Court and won. He was able to get one firearm on his name as well as his wife's name. I have mentioned this in the "import" thread some where along with the link. Try googling it, it's there. So if you have children over the age of 21, and they are able to legally purchase firearms in the USA then getting them here should not be a problem on TR. Getting licenses for all of you in India may end up being a bigger task.

Aside from the legal issues, IMHO the best thing to do would be to get good quality handguns with ammo that's available in India through dealers. That limits you to .22LR,.25ACP,.32ACP,.32S&W,.32 S&WLong,.30 Mauser. Some people advise you to go for .380ACP or .357 Magnum or .40S&W (ammo is difficult or impossible to get or very expensive if available). Also the impracticality of getting ammo every time you go abroad because of the hassles of transport through airports and the paperwork involved and also the possibility of other countries not willing to sell you ammo over the counter should be considered when selecting calibers.
Shotguns whether O/U or SXS or even PA (more expensive), and Rifles of different calibers (although limited) and different actions such as slide action, bolt action or lever action are available. The choices for handguns is the least and when available very expensive, that is why my advice(even tjough you didnt ask for it) is for handguns.
A revolver of .327 caliber such as the Ruger GP100 or a CZ83 in .32ACP would be ideal for defense and target practice.
