hi friends,
yes grumpy the budget has just risen( fortune/luck/god wants me to shoot). (will announce the reason after its 100% confirmed.) and i wasnt thinking of a 750 pound gun but a 750 pound bettinsoli gun going at 550 pounds.
grumpy i agree with you re the bad coach but i think "you get what you pay for".
i think i was being penny wise pound foolish.
i dont want to sound miserly but the ncsc at bisley arrange a formal tuition for 70 quid for three people which works out to 23 per person.
the only catch is that they only coach people with their own guns.
so i wanted to rush into it. i thought that though they coach for skeet and dtl etc, i would at least get the basics like stance, eye dominance, mount etc sorted out.
i know it was wrong to do dtl with a sporter but the price was too good to resist.
i was also told that the coaches at ncsc are quite good.
i never get bored of ur posts or what u tell me.
i would love to meet when i come to your part of the world (outside london;-) )
but im spending most of my spare time with mundaire these days.
god willing i should get my certificate very soon as it has been 2 weeks since my inspection/interview.
cant wait!!!

penpusher i agree with grumpy re the auctions.
not much into SxS esp for clays.
Also while im outside india, might as well shoot o/u as u know how expensive and difficult it is to get a good o/u there.

Re: Welome to IFG Dev Vrat!
I still think that you`ll take a huge hit in depreciation with the Bettinsoli even though it`s the `de luxe` spec gun. The older model Bettinsolis are hard-pressed to make £200 - with side-plates or without. The trouble is that Bettinsolis are regarded as - and are - `cheap` guns ( like the E.Rizzinis ) and good value or not their used values will fall very badly - when the range is only a few months old and secondhand Diamond Line models are already being offered at £350 by dealers you can take it for granted that prices will fall further.
If it is important to you that you buy a new gun you would be much better off putting the purchase off a couple of months while you save up for a more popularly desireable gun. The most sensible thing of all is to buy a used gun - even a near mint example will cost appreciably less than when new.
Remember that a new gun is secondhand as soon as you buy it.
There`s nothing `wrong` with using a Sporter to shoot DTL Trap. On a Sunday morning when the majority of the countries clay shooters shoot the majority will shoot a round of Sporting and maybe a round of DTL Trap........with their Sporters. Only the dedicated Trap shooters buy a dedicated Trap gun - ditto Skeet.

thanks grumpy.
i WILL NOT rush in to buying a gun.
now the question is what do i do till then?
i know of 3 options.
wait
shoot with a club gun
buy a very cheap gun (85 pound baikal maybe) till then so i can continue to shoot.
is there another option?
also, if i were to tell you that if my budget was 1000 what gun would you recommend

DV, Haven't asked my opinion but if you go for £1000 range are a bit higher, I would take a hard look at Caesar Guerinis.I handled one at Grumpy's home and it was gorgeous to say the least.Superbly made and guaranteed for life I think. Before he showed it to me, a CG 20 bore Magnus Jaspe,he said that he was going to show me something that would break my heart and it did.Beretta or Browning/ Miroku are great guns but CGs are no less.JMHO. I will sure get one whenever that is.
Good shooting-
Vikram

Seems to be a shame to be in Uk and not buy a British made gun, even if second hand.

Re: Welome to IFG Dev Vrat!
Dev, it`s a shame you couldn`t get down here this weekend as Avalon Guns are having their open weekend at Ivythorne.
The Caesar Guerrinis are lovely but it is the game guns that are getting the attention......and they`re a lot more expensive than £1,000.
penpusher, that Webley O/U is waaaay overpriced. The guns were actually made by Beretta for Webley and date back to the `70s. The model corresponds to whatever Berretta was building at the time - probably the S56E. In the UK you`ld pay around £300-350 for a Webley Beretta.........Desireable they ain`t.
Here`s where I do my stuck record thing......again. Several years ago the best Sporting Clays shot in the country told me that there isn`t a better gun than a Beretta 682. It`s a statement that I`ve never been able to disagree with - and I am not a Beretta fan. He wasn`t using a Beretta at the time as he was, and is, sponsored by another maker. There are guns that are as good but none that are better......and you won`t get a comparable used Perazzi, Renato Gamba ( or Beretta DT10 if it comes to that ) for the same price as a used 682. You could get a Zoli Kronos though.
For £1000 you could buy a new 686 or a used 682 - with plenty of change - or a used Zoli Kronos. The 686 - in all its myriad variants - is a good gun. There isn`t one being used in top class competition though.
If you can shoot with a club gun what is the point of buying a cheapo Baikal ? Just get in as much shooting as possible and with as many guns as possible.

Clay guns have full pistol grips - not Prince of Wales.......or Whales. Does a harpoon gun have a Prince of Whales grip do you think ?

being in uk, wanting an english gun but not being able to afford one.
speaking of webleys, any views about the new 1000g and 1000s series?

hi grumpy sorry for the late response,
grumpy, ill be making an appt to visit litts this sat. will let everyone know how it goes.
shame about the avalon guns open day though.
mundaqire is to be blamed for it.
forced me to take him shooting (at gun point).
have posted a thread bout it.
thanks for ur advice. is it true that brownings costing less than £2500 arent very reliable/good (plz see my post dated 14 june; same thread).
also just for the use of club gun, i get charged a lot more. (is it because i dont have a shotgun certificate? will it cost less if i present my certificate and ask for the use of the club gun?).
in fact even with the limited amount of shots i fire (150 rounds a week; 3X50) the difference is enough to pay for a cheap gun.
regards.
