Thanks Choombakchoombak wrote:http://www.cybex.in/indian-custom-duty/ ... -8211.aspx Duty on pocket knives is about 20% and fixed blades is 15%
Read Section 4 of Arms Act 1959 along with Rule 19 of Arms Rules 1962. As per rule 19, blade length no more than 9" and width no more than 2". I'd say stick within these limits and you at least have a case to argue, else it's a free donation for decorating some officer's house.anonymusneo wrote:quick question-
Can we import swords to India? or only the knives that choombak desribed above?
Read and understand Section 4 of Arms Act 1959 along with Rule 19 of Arms Rules 1962. As per rule 19, blade length limit is 9" and width limit is 2". Any bigger, and it's a donation for decorating a wall in a custom officer's house.anonymusneo wrote:quick question-

Alternately, here is my offer - if you spot a good blade on bladeforums, I'll purchase it for you and ship it your way via USPS first class + registered. Guaranteed delivery in 3 weeks, and because we purchase it on the bladeforums at a lower price the declared value will be low. Plz check with slingshot and moin. Offer only for ifg members.
First of all, you are getting a fake. It is best confiscated by customs. By buying fakes, we are unknowingly feeding them, and hurting the original manufacturers. Genuine stuff costs money, but money can be saved, rather than giving in to temptation. My gut feeling - it'll reach you fine, but sincere advise, stay away from China-made fakes.rakizh wrote:Hi,
I am a newbie here. Till date I have only bought knives (Gerber warrant - fixed blade, & Gerber myth folding sheath knife) from outdoortravelgear.com.
This time decided to try my luck on ebay (since cudn'the find any that shipped to India on amazon). Placed an order for Smith and Wesson SW990 neck knife which cost me 5.33$ and free shipping from China.
My question is will I get the knife delivered or will I get call from customs to pay the duty and collect the parcel? Anyone with some exp ordering from eBay? ?
I had placed an order with knife centre on the 11th of July which was delivered to me on the 16th by FedEx. The total duty of approximately 30% was paid by FedEx and collected from me on delivery. They gave me all relevant receipts along with the consignment. Basically the whole transaction was quite smooth.essdee1972 wrote:I am posting the following to share my experience.........
I recently tried the knifecenter option of not paying duty initially. Though Fedex did deliver on time, but I had to submit KYC docs (my mugshot, and copies of residence and identity proof and PAN card). Lot less "smooth" than the duty paid option, but I might have saved some moolah.
Moreover, it seems that if you give your office address (I did because I am not at home in the daytime and I didn't want my mother hassled if some Customs issue cropped up), they will treat it as a "commercial" shipment and go around asking for IECs!! I had to give a separate letter saying that this is for personal purpose, and I had given workplace address since no one's home!!
And yes, tracking-wise, Fedex da jawaab nahin!
