Hi from Kolkata

Post by Sudipto » Wed Jun 06, 2007 8:15 pm

Thanks Mundaire for the warm welcome.
This is Sudipto from Kolkata. This is my first posting to introduce myself. 43 years old, father of a 4-year old, love all things outdoor and live pets. Love travelling by car. I am in the process of obtaining a licence for a handgun and need to know various things/rules from the veterans, as I am a rank novice in this.
I would love to know if there are any veterans in this forum who lives in Kolkata. To start off I need some guidance on some shooting clubs in Kolkata. Any help? I mean I could easily find out the addresses I am sure, but if anyone could please guide me to the better ones in this city.
Regards
Sudipto

Thanks Sanjay & Kanwar. Who is TC? How do I find him here? I couldn't locate a member list. I will keep searching though.
Meanwhile, I spoke to the in-charge of a police training school here who told me he would guide me to a club next week. However, I find it funny that we have so many restrictions on the issue and use of guns here (which is fine) but the licence is issued on the basis of your character and need for a gun only and not on your ability to use it. It's like the RTO giving you a licence to drive without taking a driving test. This came up during my conversation with this police officer who asked me what gun I had and I said I had none as I don't have a licence and ethically I should not have a licence unless I know how to use it, like driving licence. He smiled in a resigned way. Anyway, I am going to do it my way and learn how to use the weapon first before getting the licence to use it.

Hi Sudipto,

Welcome to IFG :). You have not mentioned your location in Kol. I mean south or North Kolkata. Currently there are two Rifle Club . You can choose from them based on your location preference. Tanmay (TC) probably out of town but he is a member of South Calcutta Rifle Club and surely he will help you. Other wise you can PM me your contact details I will try my level best to help you out.
Take care

Sudipto,

Welcome from the former capital of the gun trade in India!

Hope you get your license soon and find a nice semiauto/revolver. Do post on the selection process and what you finally buy. Get those who don;t have handguns salivating in the process and add to the numbers of handgun owners here. Some people need all the inspiration that they can get.

Cheers!
