Sex and the Flying machine.
I know we have a lot of WW2 fans here on this forum and a lot of them are aviation fans.
I came across this video that I liked, so I thought I would share. It is a commercial but it is very well done. It features two WW2 legends; rebuilt and restored beautifully.
The photography is breathtaking and while there is a message in the advertisement, I found my self watching it over a few times skipping through some of the sections.
The girls are beautiful but .....I can't have been the only person who used to fast forward through the Top Gun love scenes or the Pearl Harbor love scenes. I love both WW2 aircraft, especially those two; the epitome of piston engine fighter design. Yes, I am talking about the aircraft here.
Though I will admit the Hawker Sea Fury was a pretty sexy beast.

Re: Sex and the Flying machine.
.. Not to mention that there is something very gratifying about a Merlin engine in full song. It always makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
The Corsair's Double Wasp sounds mighty fine too, so I wish they had toned the dang music down a bit.

Re: Sex and the Flying machine.
XL, what fun to watch! You can have the Mustang, no problem, as the Corsair is my favorite and I'll take big round Pratt & Whitney power over the Merlin any day!
It's not quite sporting to match a F4U-1 with a P51-D; an F4U-4 with the R2800 C (rather than the R2800 B) would be a fairer match for a Packard Merlin engined P51, but I would still like the Corsair!
I once read that a Texas oil magnate bought his aviatrix wife an F4U to get rid of her, which the war surplus Corsair accomplished. Apparently, when landing on the carrier, the pilot cranks in full rudder tab and holds the rudder opposite, because if he gets waved off, socking the throttle to that big round motor will take every iota of rudder and tab to counteract that P&W torque! Apparently the wife jabbed the throttle imprudently and the Corsair screwed her into the ground.
There is something so wonderful about those machines, isn't there?
Thanks for posting!!!

LOL Tim, in its early days the Corsair was called the "Ensign Eliminator" as it made short work of an unwary pilot.timmy wrote: I once read that a Texas oil magnate bought his aviatrix wife an F4U to get rid of her, which the war surplus Corsair accomplished. Re: Sex and the Flying machine.
Putting the fuel tank where the pilot had been did have its disadvantages. I understand that they were a handful! However, it also gives that long hood - short trunk profile of a sporty car!
Of course, if you like the bubble canopy style of the Mustang and an R2800 isn't enough power for you, you can always go for a 3500 hp 28 cylinder R4360 in an F2G:

Very worthwhile video, and a US board I am on thanks you for the link.
Nevertheless, it is clear that you have not been following recent progress in the Nigerian avionics industry.

Re: Sex and the Flying machine.
I am guessing that this thing is based on some version of a Pou du Ciel:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mignet_Pou-du-Ciel
That such odd looking contraptions can, did, and do fly demonstrates that truth is stranger than fiction:
however, this Kenyan guy's workmanship is what I would question. They didn't say much about a power plant except that it was a Toyota, and I'm guessing it came from some car. For one thing, these Pou du Ciels are not meant for a heavy engine, and how his installation in flight might work out is anyone's guess. For another thing, watching how the airframe was repaired doesn't give me a lot of confidence in how the power plant conversion might have been accomplished. I once read of some crackpot who did a Volkswagen conversion that depended on a press fit to keep the prop on the snout of the crank! This operation doesn't look much better, so perhaps we should be thankful that he didn't get off the ground.

Re: Sex and the Flying machine.
Th Royal Navy`s Historic Flight includes a Sea Fury amongst it`s aircraft. They`re based just a few miles away so we used to see the plane quite often .... well, you`ld hear it well before it ever flew into sight. It`s flying again after a rebuild but I haven`t seen it recently. I`m curious about the multi engine turboprop that flies over at around 03:00 quite regularly .... Probably a Hercules ( C-130 ) on training flights but peculiar all the same.
