A Teacher’s Influence....

Post by brihacharan » Fri Jan 17, 2014 1:44 pm

A Teacher’s Influence

" A Teacher's influence affects eternity...No one knows where it stops"!!!

The story below more than proves its point!!!

The Principal addressing his school’s ‘Graduation Ceremony’ said …

Every Doctor wants his child to become a doctor, the Engineer wants his child to become an engineer & the Businessman wants his ward to become CEO.....

But nobody wants to become a teacher BY CHOICE" ....Very sad but that's the truth.....!!!

A CEO present began explaining the problem with education. He said, "What's a kid going to learn from someone who has decided that his best option in life was to become only a teacher?"

To stress his point he turned to a Teacher and said… "You're a teacher Ms. Grace, be honest and tell me - What do you make?"

Teacher Grace, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, "You want to know what I make?

1.Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.
2.I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor winner.
3.I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can't make them sit for 5 min. without their I- Pod, Game Cube or movie rental.
4.I make kids wonder & I make them question.
5.I make them apologize and mean it.
6.I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions.
7.I teach them how to write and then I make them write because using a keyboard isn't everything.
8.I make them read, read & read
9.I make them use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator.
10.I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know about English while preserving their unique cultural identity.
11.I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe.
12.I make them understand to use these gifts they were given, to work hard and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life.

Grace paused one last time and then continued….
I MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN ALL YOUR LIVES, EDUCATING KIDS AND PREPARING THEM TO BECOME CEO'S, DOCTORS AND ENGINEERS..........

What do you make Mr. CEO?

His jaw dropped - He went silent!!!

Brihaji, you have just described an ideal teacher!!

In 19 years of getting an education (KG to MBA) I probably had 5 like that. Only 5. Esp if you include the word "willingly" in point 3.
Cheers!

Essdee,
> During my teaching stint in a Business School I learned that if I could not grab their attention in the "1st 3 minutes" of the beginning of a class - I lost them for the rest of the period
> So I always began my lectures with an "anecdote or a story" & made the session more interactive - the flip-side of this was that even after the bell rang to announce the end of the lecture - the students hung on..... :D
> Its been over 12 years since I took a sabbatical from my teaching - Yet even now I get calls from them (all over the country) to wish me on Dusshera, Diwali, Christmas & New Year :D
