Maneating tigress of Moradabad

A tigress wandered out of Corbett National Park and moved into Dist. Moradabad. The last count I heard was that she had killed 5 people.
Yesterday a meeting was called by the Dist. Admin where they had invited some hunters (including my friend Singh--who happens to be a local). Having shot 10 maneating leopards before Singh was rather confident. So he took his .375 rifle along with all his certificates and went to apply for the permit.
He had also given my name along as a member of his "Shikar Team".
I had almost started dreaming of the Maneating Tiger Hunt and penning down the experience here......when my dreams were shattered.

The final permits were issued today.
To 5 hunters.
Interestingly my friend failed the test.
He was NOT issued the permit.
Wonder what the criteria for selection was?

Didn't realise there was a 'criteria' on paper! That is to say that, the Forest Department actually have guidelines on them. Interestingly, how come they don't have their own men and weapons?

Tiger has reached Afzalgarh and heavy fog is setting in.

Their are chances that she might make it back to Corbett tonight

That would be great. But I wouldn't want to photograph this one on my next visit to Corbett ---which is in February (next month).

Of what I heard is that she made another kill today (a few hours ago).
A 17 year old boy in some village in Bijnor (a dist. adjoining Moradabad).
The sugarcane factories opened late in UP this year. There is still lots of hiding place for the big cat.
But unlike leopards, Tigers are bold.
If it shows up.
It should give a fair chance to the hunter.

UPDATE:

After she moved to the Afzalgarh area last night, she was about 10-15 kms from Corbett.

It rained heavily last night and even though the posse was up all night, the weather did not permit any sighting.

Morning report from Saifi is that she has moved into Corbett and safety.

Also, I think, once she moved into Uttrakhand, the Shoot orders of the UP Chief Conservator would not be valid.

Total death toll is 12 and official toll is 5. Many of the victims had been partially eaten.

UPDATE:

Once a maneater. Always a maneater.
There is no guarentee that after moving back into the jungles. This tigress will not kill more humans at a later stage.
In my opinion a maneater is best captured/killed.
Just like a murderer (read serial killer) is best put behind bars/hanged.

Sorry to disappoint you SS.
Interestingly my friend has shot the maximum maneaters amongst all the hunters who had applied.
He has also been a registered hunter with the U.P. forest Dept ( even before Uttarakhand state was formed) which makes him the senior most hunter .

Yet he did not get the permit.
Perhaps there is more to it than what we can think of.
