Prince Bijey Singhji

Post by gatsby » Mon May 28, 2007 2:17 am

I am new to the forum. I am a collector of rifled choke guns and reside in the US.
I am now researching a paradox once belonging to Prince Bijey Singhji of Bikaner. The gun is very unique in its configuration and regulation which reflects the tastes of its original owner. I am gathering any info on the Prince I can find but there is very little available. The young Prince was killed in a mishap in Feb. 1932. He was married and had children before his death. I believe there is a medical complex named for him. I would like to put a face to the person but so far I have found no photos of him. Perhaps there is a member of or someone who knows the family out there or knows of any documents which could lead me to a better understanding of this individual. I know from the little I have found written about him that he was very special person.

Gatsby,

You may be in luck. Some of the Rajasthan royals are members here and I am sure that someone or the other would step in and give you more information.

Alternately, you could PM Sat and ask him - a perfect gentleman and a keen shooter from that part of India who would be able to help.

And a request - would you please post pictures of your gun here? I am sure that many of us (if not all) would enjoy seeing them. :D You would show Keira Knightley off if she were on your arm, wouldn't you?

Good hunting and thanks for posting here!

Gatsby,

I must have a sixth sense - the Keira Knightley analogy was perfectly apt! 8)

What a beautiful gun!

Congratulations and do wait for the Rajasthan members to step in. You should hear from them very soon.

Thanks for posting the pictures and good hunting!

Sat,
Thanks but I have been thru many internet searches and I have the 1937 biography of Maharaja Ganga Singhji. There are a few facts available about the Prince birth, death ,schooling, but I was looking for something of a more personal nature if possible and/or appropriate. Some story or anecdote that says something about his personality or ties him to the gun.
About the gun:
Unusual 26" barrels, assited opener, cheek piece, regulated for The Westley capped bullet.

Gatsby,
Prof.Ms. Reema Hooja has written a biography of Maharaj Ganga Singhjis son Dr.Karni Singh the famous shooter. You may get some leads from that book. I am sure the book is easily available as Ms Hooja is now a well known writer. She also brought out the " History of Rajasthan" recently.
Will keep you posted of any new info.

Spacetraveller,

Any idea of the title of the biography and the name of the publisher?

Thanks!

Spacetraveler,
Thank you for the information I have located a copy of the book, Prince, Patriot Parliamentarian.

Sniper,
Thanks. The gun is in very good but not mint condition. Stock has been refreshed, and possibly the barrels reblacked. These guns (paradoxes) were used and this gun is no exception although the years have been very kind to it.

Mehulkamander,
I believe the book to be another piece to a larger puzzle, but I will keep digging.

hi,

gatsby

i also have a h&h paradox (no where near as good as yours) it is the number 2 of a pair and made in 1903, the factory records simlpy say "bickaner" as the name of customer, which i have been given to understand means that it was ordered by the court of bikaner, but probably did not belong to the royal family but possible gifted to one of the lessor land lords.

anyway good luck in you quest.

:)
