I totally agree on the hollow grind..and in the past have tried to get it right a few times. Unfortunately, I always ended up getting an uneven concave and ruined the blade. . So till I learn the proper technique somewhere,, I stick to straight and convex grinds.
Besides this there is no special technique, just hand cutting and grinding for shape; Sanding/polishing for finish. For final edge I use a whetstone and a 2stage field honing tool from lansky.
