Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Thanks dev,
For those who have the MQS for the GVM (that includes me too ) it will, in all probability be held in Asansol. There are 20 lanes as of date in the 10m range and a minimum of 30 more lanes are supposed to be ready (construction in full swing) before the projected dates of GVM.
Please come down; sab bhai milke chalenge Nationals tak!!!
take care

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
CONGRATULATIONS BRO - You and Jitu are the two dudes who have brought the metallic shine to the TOPS. Thanks to you I have ended up "finely" filling in the GVM form and hey - you might just find me there; if not at the incompleted completed lanes, then battling it out with the Gangs of Wasseypore that's close by. Next week PTKS-III followed by MSCC the week after.tirpassion wrote:Thanks dev,

BTW, trains are all WL and many "with regret", i.e. NO WAIT LIST ACCEPTED. Will now check out the other options: 1. ex-Pune 2. ex-Indian 3. ex-Santro/ Indigo
@Jitu - PTKS cha form bharlaas ? I shall mail you the jpegs tonight. Email or talk to the organizers (Jitesh K.) about paying up at spot - that should do. I turned in my form today.
Somehow I would feel more comfy arriving at Asansol with a few firearms tucked safely.

Dear Amarinder, Asansol is second largest city in Bengal, next to Kolkata. NRAI site lists many hotels with contact numbers. In due course I shall call them up and talk to them about the information since that's exactly what plays in my mind right now. BTW, tirpassion and another dude at my range who worked there for 4 years both agree that the city's not too bad for those who wish to stay there for 3-4 days, shoot and get the hell back home. So make your plans and join the Tirpassion Duronto. regs, A.amarinder wrote:anybody coming to GVM ? Those experienced, how are the hotels and the connectivity between hotels and range?
PS: Just noticed that this is my message # 911 ! And I am writing about Dhanbad sector.

Hotels in Asansol are so so... but you are not there to enjoy your stay in comfort and luxury. Autorickshaws will take you to the range from hotels and the fares (negotiable) depend on where your hotel is. Rs. 50 to Rs 100 one way.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
I am an MBA student and have to make sure that I dont end up spending too many days at gvm. I plan to reach there at morning of 7 which is a training day. Get a slot at around 12 of 8 nov and leave by evening. Though there also backups for leaving and arriving. My friend lives in Dhanbad and has been asking me to stay with him.
*I know if I arrive there once the competetion starts, its very difficult to get the Slot with the next 2-3 days. But would it be possible if I arrive on training day, Thrusday, to get the slot within the next 2-3 days which are fri and sat?

Most hotels cited on the NRAI site are said to be located <=4km distance from the range. So Rs. 50-100 ought to be more than OK since Asansol has CNG autos/ taxis (?) - but is it for the one way trip or per head one way trip ? Any idea on taxis like Meru here ? Howz the general area like ? OK for post-dark walks ? Eating out ? And of course, howz the food options around there ? All the info would help the folks heading out to Asansol.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Dear agn bhai,
the city of Asansol is itself not very very interesting. It is an industrial hub in the region. There are no taxis available. You will find autos and local buses (not a single one goes to the range in Chandmari). The fares mentioned are for the autorickshaw and for one way only (hotel to range or vice versa); if you are 2 or 3 you just divide the sum. The best idea is to strike a deal with an autodriver (the fares will not change but at least the woos of finding transport everyday will be over) , take his mobile number and call him whenever you want to commute.
An interesting place to visit in the vicinity is the Mython dam but the best place to visit near Asansol is 268 km away by road, 220 km by train and it is Kolkata.
best regards

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Ah! Asansol!
Gentlemen,
For those of you battening your hatches for the route to ASS and SOUL, may I suggest a few good experiences of the place;
1. For ALL YE FOODIES, Ganga Lunch Home and the fish delights are a MUST. You must experience the joys there.
2. Your route from any hotel will take you past the Railway Colony, (by cycle rickshaw) which was established by the Brits and if you are fond of Brit architecture, you can eyeball the same.
3. The food on the range, just inside and outside the entrance used to be quite tolerable, I dont think you will suffer from it.
4. Not to miss is the Kalika/Chamundi Temple.
5. There is a terrific dam close by, to be travelled via taxi, which takes you through a village, which dishes out really superb hot JALEBIS.
6. Below your hotel, each evening you will be treated to some great bengali sweets. You should try Jhaal Jhol too.
Now coming to the range conditions;
1. The Asansol range has always been the shittiest range on the planet, the light conditions have always been pathetic. It takes a tremendous effort to shoot here, that is why I call Asansol as the ASS and SOUL because it takes both
2. And that is why, I have mentioned the fringe benefits of visiting the place, so you dont feel all that bad after shooting there.
3. You can try your damndest to get good FOCUS, but if you try runing after it (Cancelling till you get reasonably good focus) you will suddenly find yourself running out of time. So just shoot and be damned and enjoy the fish delights at Ganga Lunch Home.
I sincerely hope that I have been very encouraging to you all. I wish you all the very best and wish i was still a non-veggie, perhaps i could have joined you there.
P.S. Dont ever make the mistake of taking your wives or daughters or girlfriends or mistresses to the place, the locals are completely sex starved and rape ALL females regardless of age, with their eyes.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
The A** AND Soul pun is just begging to be used. From what little I have seen at a GVM'S is that they are a circus. Two years ago I had seen 400 participants in the event. Please make sure that you have a whole lot of time on hands, as trying to rush will trip you up. Please be in touch with your state team managers, you may need their help in getting lanes, days, air and peace of mind. Please also take care of the weapon check, make sure that your trigger is set to a little more than 500gms.
That way you won't spend anxious moments fiddling with it and then shooting the match with a new trigger pressure. Small things like this grow into a big tempest. Make sure that you get enough rest as fatigue can make you want to throw the match away. Do not carry sugary drinks to the match. Carry some dry fruits to recharge energy, say 45 minutes or so before the match. Lastly, remember that it is going to be a circus and expect nothing else, if it is organised well then that is a blessing.
Think I have said enough and wish all of you the best, enjoy yourselves.
