Yes AGN, I guess that is one option if all else fails? But it will really take a long time and then i probably will have to come back in my next life to practice with it!airgun_novice wrote:Did the NRAI pointer not work out wrt that pistol ? Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Dear Guruji,
Can I do the Bindi hold ecercise with the FP? The sight picture is almost identical to that of the AP but a bit smaller. I thought that the FP being heavier and having a longer sight length, it will add to the stability of AP eventually. What do you say? Normally, I exert pressure on the trigger shoe (as I do normally my SOA) while doing the Bindi old exercise. But I have a doubt. In case of FP, the trigger weight is negligible compared to that of the AP. If I do the exercise with the FP and continue to exert trigger pressure of AP will there be any confusion later?
best regards

Dear Amarinder,
Pune airport to Balewadi Stadium at Mhalunge village is about 21-22 km with (usual) driving time of under 1 hr. Think there's some sorta shuttle from the airport to Balewadi. Never had to check it out. There's hostel facility but dunno how to go about it. Heard it rents out at Rs. 1000/ day with 3 beds in it. BTW Balewadi has perpetual water and electricity issues. There's a few hotels (budget) like Arjun, Radha etc. close by along with Ginger (Wakad) and other upper end hotels which you can look up from travel sites like travelguru. No vested interests here. BTW, in MH these days you need to carry a GOVT-ISSUED picture ID before checking into any hotel. Good luck.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
I s there any extra charges for carrying air pistol while travelling in air plane?? Customer care people said no but shooters I know ,said yes. So i m confused a bit. Also, if not flight I have to travel by train. If I have to reach at 4am in the morning from PUNE GUN FOR GLORY shooting range , which 16 km approx, can I get taxi easily at 3 am in morning??

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
1. Please check the threads already posted for past information about air/ train travel with AP and directly with the concerned airlines (Spicejet/ Indian) for LATEST regulations and charges. Last known these two did not charge extra for the AP.amarinder wrote:I s there any extra charges for carrying air pistol while travelling in air plane?? 2. To answer your second point, let me put forth a hypothetical case. I am travelling from Mumbai to Mohali to watch a one-day cricket match My train arrives at Chandigadh at 3 AM in the morning and have a friend waiting at the station. What should I do ? Shall I ask him to take me to the stadium which is approx 16km from the station and which I can possibly reach in 30-40 min ? Will the security and the stadium management admit me inside the stadium at 4AM for the match which is going to start at 9:30AM ? Exactly that way, you will need to camp at some hotel close to the station for next few hours and then catch an auto or private cab (e.g. MERU) and go to Balewadi at good time. Check travelguru for hotels close to the station and book online. They might charge you for a day extra f you barge in at 3AM since the usual check-in time thereabouts is noon. Talk and negotiate if possible.
3. Now to your Q on the other thread (Help... Mumbaikar).
3.1. You can fly into Pune directly or into Mumbai. Either case you can choose the lodging place closer to Balewadi. If flying to Mumbai, try to arrive in early and catch a pre-paid cab to Dadar Station (EAST). There you will get pre-paid cab to Pune or Shivneri brand State Transport Bus (Volvo buses). Ask for the one that stops at Wakad Naka. That's 100m from Ginger Hotel and from others and about 1.5 km from Balewadi (another 1 to 1.5 km to get to the range inside). These Volvo buses are comfortable and fairly punctual and from Dadar they start practically every 15-30 min.
3.2. If you are coming by train - do not get all the way down South to CST (CENTRAL) or BCT (Mumbai Central - WESTERN) if your train stops at DADAR (DDR). If it stops at Dadar, get down and exit on the EASTERN SIDE - ask for PUNE cabs or buses side. The bus and cab stand is on Ambedkar Road (aka Eastern Express Highway) 5 min walking distance from the Dadar station. As above catch the Shivneri to Wakad Naka and then to your hotel or Balewadi stadium as needed.
3.3 If you insist on catching a train to Pune - then catch a cab from Mumbai Central to CST where you will find the train to Pune. Check the timings and reserve beforehand. Ganapati will be over by the time you come in but 9-ratri would have started. So traffic woes will continue.
Hope I have put your mind to rest.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Hello Tir
Try it out but be warned that the micrometer movement in fp for this exercise can really throw your shot out. Therefore you have to be extremely carefull while doing this exercise with the FP. The question is; how much of the amplitude in arc of movement is acceptable? My suggestion is that you try it out, then go and cross check on the shooting range.
Regards

The result of the exercise with AP is pretty encouraging. However, I stand warned about the exercise with FP and hence would prefer not to take the risk. I have toiled a lot to build a certain confidence in FP. Is it worth to put the same confidence at stake? But, I tend to believe that the figure 8s with the FP on a blank target will do no bad. What do you think?
I think that my problem is of not being able to associate the AP with the FP. I have more confidence in FP shooting than in AP shooting, maybe because my initiation to FP shooting has been entirely different under your guidance and I am not as yet being able to erase the accumulated errors of AP shooting. These errors are probably haunting me still in my sub conscious. It is curious but true. I am a different shooter with the FP, more at ease, more relaxed, more determined, more aggressive... and I want to find myself with the same mind frame with the AP in hand.
best regards

Yes Figure 8s with FP on blank target is fine.
I experience the same... let me think more about this, I will get back to you, do remind me if i fail to reply. But off hand, I can say that close confines normally do not get the best out of me. I have always loved the open space with few people around me.... FP lends itself easily to my nature. But this is my personal take on this and please do not construe that i don't like people...its just that I am not overly fond of my personal space being over crowded.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
hello everybody and HVJ1 esp,,
Yesterday scored 370 with most of the shots in close groups. Some times the 7 or 8 came due to recoil and bad SA picture or firing even when arm starts shaking. The trigger pressure and the grip are posing some problem but i will sort it out.
One thing I have realized that there needs to be some anger in you while shooting only then the mind is determined enough to focus on SA otherwise, it shifts it to BLACK HOLE and then the inevitable happens. Earlier was firing immediately on reaching the bottom but I have realized that its important to verify the SA and its position to be real good and it is because of this 370 happened. One good thing I have realized is that SELF RECORDED IMAGERY SCRIPTS IN AUDIO TAPE ARE BENEFICIAL FOR ME rather than simply visualizing without any guidance.
Critical Analysis:
*I dont visualized before each and every .
*Some times, I am in to hurry to take next shot with proper rest.
*Dont cancel the shots sometimes and fire at 7 - 8 .
SOMETIMES, I WISH I HAVE PROPER COACH WITH ME WHEN I AM PRACTICING. BUT LETS HOPE I MEET SOME DAY.....

I have reduced the second stage travel as it was a bit to much and recoiled my gun . Are there any guidelines for second stage travel length or just it has to be 500gms?

I will not be over elogious. I would rather add a note of caution. DO NOT GET CARRIED AWAY!!! Just concentrate on your work! Do not dream of scores. They will come with time and in proportion to what you deserve. Now, the word deserve deserves a deep insight .
Do not fiddle with the trigger! If you think that a lighter trigger will improve your performance in short term, you are grossly mistaken. The jerks are in no way because of a heavy second stage trigger, they are results of improper trigger control. Work on that!

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Dear all, For some strange reason I managed to go to the range only twice, on the 6th and then again today i.e. 12th. No @home prax in the interim either. Observed a solid dip in the performance. Or is it the grip that I am trying to come to grips with ?

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
my cocking and loading mechanism has become too sensitive. i have to be extremely carefull and slow while cocking and loading it otherwise it fires automatically without any pressure. the trigger is tight .
any idea what to do?
