And uncle of one of my friends died of dehydration in his own house seated in the 'padmaasan' over two days - at least that's what the doc wrote on his certificate. This is another story carted aside for a campfire at Kelwe or Satara. :-) Amarinder, hope you heed to the wise words from the seniors and me. Good Luck in your quest.

Hello to everybody,

To HVJ1 and other experienced shooters who have been wasting their time with me...

It was my first official competition at DR karni singh range today..And here is the report card::

Total score: 353 ( 84, 89 , 92 , 88) .
I hope its a decent score for someone who started shooting 2 months ago only.. But overall its was a very big experience with new Q&A :

---------------------
Initially I wasn't aware that competition are going on in delhi and I knew if i don't score 345+ , I wont get a chance to play for one whole year. I panicked and sent a mail to NRAI which the secretary, Rajiv bhatia read and called. Asked me to go to range Asap. Went there on 26 and used name of rajiv bhatia as if he is my family friend. The organizers asked me no Qs on hearing his name and immediately registered at single entry. Came back on 26, play my first 40 shot match since I started. For past 2 months I had been just analyzing it. As expected the score was low and not upto 345. But I knew that my performance in pressure situation increases and had a feeling that i would nail.

Went yesterday to delhi, and today I had to get my gun checked before starting. Checker said me your jeans and they are not allowed  . I was like opps!! Next objection: your trigger is light slighting , tighten it  . I was like oopss again as i did not take my toolbox with me and wasn't even aware about how to tighten trigger but the checked ticked in the sheet though. Next Objection: put safety plug inside while not shooting and I wasn't aware what plug is !!

Other experienced shooters just asked me forget about trigger now and shoot. Luckily I had a capry in my car.

In range, the distance seemed 8 meters and not 10 which I am used while practicing at my terrace. Dont know why?!

As competetion started, Initially my targets where 7 , 8 ,8, 9 etc and first 10 series where of about 84 and I knew i was screwed. But I CHANGE SOME THING AT THIS POINT. Initially I was talking to myself but after 10 shots I stopped and shut down my brain. After this my brain was like that of a squirrel walking on a pole wire :| :| :| Not thinking any thing at all. And let the subconscious mind do the work. After this it 9s, 10s and 8s.....My best series was third where I had it only 9s and 10s :D

In this last series my score was 336 and I though only one shot was left. It was the first time I felt pressure but I made sure I DONT THINK ANYTHING. I had to get a 10. I raised my gun and it was shaking as if I am lifting it for first time. So, shaky. I thought :( :( :( . I tried again but it was a disaster again. Luckily i saw the monitor and saw that I had 2 shots left and not one.... :D :D :D :D :D . After that I hit 8 and 9 ....

It was a good and satisfying experience and releived that I have qualified. ...

But there are still some Q's and I am looking for answers::

* I dont have a habit of following the gun shot after trigger press which I know is very bad. Infact, I dont even know sometimes when and why I pressed the trigger. Luckily, I was hitting 9s and 10s even with this technical fault. How it is supposed to be ?? Should i be able to tell after the shot where i hit or let subconscious mind do its work of pressing the trigger when Sight is aligned automatically??

* I was not feeling the butter flies in my stomach kind of pressure. Though I was subconsciously aware what every shot in the match meant. And sometimes, my SA was so shaky I could not even believe it. Was this the subconscious mind doing it work of pressure or due to some other reason like grip???

* How much does it cost to set up sius ascor range at home. It seems easy just to look at screen and know the score after every shot. NOW, I walk 10 metere after every shot; breaking my concentration and rhythm.

* After this, what other competition I can get into and what scores are required there to qualify and what are their approximate dates. I was lucky this time....

Thanks to hvj1. Its because of him that I qualfied today. I am only going to get more intense, hungry, and technical from now on ...

Amarinder,
Congratulations, 353/400, is a bloody good score! I am very happy to see your progress. So, all of us here are really not wasting our time now are we?

Hello Tir
Sorry for not replying to you earlier. I think AGN/Jitu/Dev have given you an answer to your problem: Turn the face of the monitor.
That should do the trick. I am so caught up with this book business, still I will try to check once in a while.
Regards

Dear Amarinder,
Congratulations on crossing the hurdle of MQS. Hopefully, this ought to qualify you for the GVM and NZ. So good luck preparing for the same. :-) BTW, do bear in mind that cargo-style pants are not allowed either.

Hi Amarinder,
Hearty congratulations on your splendid achievement :D
Rest assured that our 'esteemed gurus' have not wasted their time... the very fact that you've benefited from their Gyan is sufficient proof :D

Hello Amarinder,

First of all, my heartiest congratulations to you for your score of 353/400. It is excellent performance for a beginner of 2 months  .

Secondly, I do not think that I am wasting my time personally or our Guruji and friends are doing the same with your queries. Sometimes, they are too complicated for me to answer :? . Just stay simple in your approach to shooting sport, follow the lessons on this thread meticulously and you will reap rich benefits :D .
* How much does it cost to set up sius ascor range at home. It seems easy just to look at screen and know the score after every shot. NOW, I walk 10 metere after every shot; breaking my concentration and rhythm.
This part of your query attracted my attention the most.
You should be able to confide in your sub conscious and have full confidence in your own self, to the extent that you need not even see the monitor, or bring the card back or go down to the card at 10m everytime to see the score. It means that your confidence level should be such that when you lift your weapon to shoot, you know that you will do good work (for which you have prepared yourself) and once the shot breaks, you confirm that you are satisfied with your work as prepared (SOA, visualization of shot) and you prepare the next shot. The answer to your question is in your own statement. Please read carefully what you have yourself written and you will understand.
Do you really need to walk down 10m after every shot to verify the score??? Shut down your brain and confide in your sub-conscious!

Materially speaking, I will do away with the personal electronic target because neither do I have the means, nor do I have the necessity, so to say. I will continue as it is. But if you so wish, you can install a pulley system for your personal range. Now, if you have enough means to install a personal EST, why not??? I can not predict how much benefits it will bring to you but SIUS will be benefited for sure.

Lastly, the same advise again; STAY SIMPLE in your approach to shooting sport, follow the lessons on this thread meticulously, do what you have been doing (confiding in your sub conscious that is) and you will reap rich benefits :D .

best regards

Sir,

I think that I will have to develop an 'in between method' :D . The monitor in fact, was very helpful too for me to regroup myself and work on the mental intensity. It was also helpful for me to understand the pattern of the impacts and fine tune my gripping. So, I need it to work well and I do not need it to create expectations in me. Complicated no???

Dear all,

Humble Amarinder is talking about PURACH conducted by NRAI at Delhi for shooters from Punjab, Rajasthan and Chandigadh. In fact, Amarinder has *topped* the PUNJAB STATE/ DIVISION in 10m AP for men. :-) Scores are out on indianshooting.com. CONGRATULATIONS & Best wishes to him.

Can not really take credit for "lage raho" Principle - the credit is rightfully JITU's :-) ... and often extolled by tirpassion.

Dear tirpassion, Have taken the pictures of the modified, rather "M-Sealed" grip, but ain't finding the USB cord to load down onto the laptop and then upload into the photo-bucket. Gimme a day or two, will do so. Looks like I shall be very busy this month of Aug, so visits to the range(s) would be few. Since the month of August seems to be "dry" anyway, will follow your advice and work on the basics - F8, holding and DF, which can be done at home. Hope to get some breather and LF prax later in Sep. regs, A.

Edited: August 4, 2013 -> I have emailed you the pictures. The one near the web keeps breaking due to pressure exerted and hence had to affix new. Now it deep presses some nerve and the hand hurts; yet to experiment fully and sand off as needed. But shall await your comments before going for the dusty road; i.e. the saw-dust route. :-)

hahahah...I did not knew that. But it gave me immense joy to me and my family. But cannot ignore the fact that only hand full of quality shooters came. And 2 shooters from rajasthan performed really well. I want to reach that level of 370+.

Please answer this query. I am not able to get that shaking arm view out of my mind ....

* I was not feeling the butter flies in my stomach kind of pressure. Though I was subconsciously aware what every shot in the match meant. And sometimes, my SA was so shaky I could not even believe it. Was this the subconscious mind doing it work of pressure or due to some other reason like grip???

I dont want to see that shaking SA ever again...
