Thanks Guruji, Brihaji, dev, agn and bodhi.
I was really happy to confirm my place in that particular group. Well agn bhai, I scored 95/100 and the 1st place went also for 95/100 because the winner had a better '9' than mine by 3mm from the centre (the farthest impacts of both shooters are compared). Till last year, I was with bronze in that meet and this year I have graduated to silver. So no regrets whatsoever :D

A particular word of thanks to Brihaji and agn bhai for your explications on nasal breathing. They were highly educative.
With you people around, I will not leave this world as a stupid  .

Dear Guruji, dear friends,

I will narrate my frustrations since a few months with my FP. I was not scoring well with the FP, in the limits of 500 since long because I was not able to manage the aiming area. I was shooting high, I was shooting low, I was lost. I was doubting the weapon, the ammo and I started even to doubt my own abilities / capabilities in FP shooting. In the process, I lost my qualifications for the French Nationals too.

Well, I discovered 10 days back, that there is a screw to block the grip in place after adjusting the inclination angle. I had removed that screw last year because I did not find any use of that screw. In fact what was happening was that with subsequent shot and recoil, the weapon was moving inside the grip and the muzzle was going down, resulting in impacts which were going down as the match was progressing. When I understood it at last, I put back that screw in place and adjusted the same to block the frame movement inside the grip.
Today, I went to shoot a national circuit match (one of the few matches which gets you a national ranking on average over a year) because I desperately wanted to confirm with my own self that I was really not that bad in FP shooting. And I am happy to announce the results :).

I have scored 524/600 in FP today, my first match on electronic target and my best score in FP till date. It got me a 2nd place trophy also which I will not ignore. 15 sighter shots during the 15 minutes preparation time. 60 record shots in 1h10 minutes including 4 seated breaks. The series were:
87, 84, 86, 93, 90, 84. You will find the print out of the electronic target here.
Result FP Electronic target.jpg
I know that I am capable of more but it was so difficult to come out of the doubts which shrouded me for the last 3/4 months. It was a bloody screw which screwed me off the season this year (the cut-off score for the 56 quota places in the nationals was 514 this year)… :x Anyway, better late than never. I learned a good lesson...

Now, my first experience with the electronic target.

Advantages:
- Position/Placement was no problem. Did not have to move from stance every time to change the targets.
- I was easily reminded of bad shots on screen and immediately tightened myself to concentrate/regroup.
- Helped me to understand, review and adjust my gripping (pressure) as i could see the points on the monitor.

Inconveniences:
-After every shot, the eye was on the screen to see the result. When there were a series of good shots, expectation took over and resulted in bad shots.
- Difficulty in liberating myself and in getting in the rhythm because the bloody screen was just in front. Since I am in the phase of getting out of a period of doubt, I was also sub consciously wanting to confirm and reconfirm my abilities by looking at the result on monitor after every shot.

Example of yo yo because of the electronic target; in the last series, after a 8 and a 7, I shot three 9s (expectations grew) and then a 5 without any clue whatsoever. Having seen that on screen, kicked my own backside, liberated myself and shot three 10s consecutively. The expectation/admiration/surprise/'too good to be true' thing took over me and the last shot was a 7 after 3 shot cancellations. This yo yo pattern can be seen on the result printout.

Guruji, I sincerely need your suggestions and views.

Best regards

On the last Delhi state that I shot, I did one thing right. I turned the electronic screen away. So until one was done with shot could one see the result.
I haven't shot my pistol for months this year, though I do occasionally dry fire, not more than 20 times. Haven't been able to lock a time and now my little girl kinda walks in and wants to play. So pistol has to be quickly locked away, she likes the shiny pistol and reaches out for it.

Guess you must have figured out the same stunt of turning the scoring screen away during the match itself. It is often the small stuff that trips us up.

Regards,

Dev

Dear upacharyaji,

Is this a test ? :-) No one "enters" stupid; hence none "exits" as stupid either. "Stupid" is the one who simply does not learn. Of course, it's a different matter that in between this entry-exit duration, should Cupid interact - the afflicted can turn Stupid; but even that phase of stupidity is temporary. ;-) In short, Cupid <-> Stupid. And for Heavens' Sakes do *not* do any BD here!!! Should this BD fall subsequently into the hands of BB, the BB will light you up like a BD ! ROTFL

Whatever gyaan that gets shared is but a match-stick lighted along the way. Either the holder can keep holding the lighted stick till it burns out the index and thumb fingers or light a wick. As a shooter, especially a *pistol* shooter, we both/ all are aware of the import of the index and the thumb fingers, unlike as Brihji said in humor section, we do not "pluck yew". Hence it's in our selfish interest to keep these two fingers un-burnt and lighting the wick of the lamp of Knowledge is the way out.

Now enough of all this Magic Lamp (remember this anyone ?) - let us retreat into The Sanctuary ... of niShkaam karm practice, eh Guruji ?

congrats again upacharyaji. one can so very understand the predicament with the electronic tgt. went through the same at gvm and north zone last year. one needs to just accept these things and mov on. takes time i guess but feasible.
anyway tir , i have started with the holds. have rigged up a small range in the house itself. good to get back to holds. initially did only holds without counting the time. now have started with the 30 secs/ 40 holds routine. will graduate to sixty only when i get the hundred percent as suggested. will let u know the progress. but feeling good to be back in prac

QUERY:
*while deep breathing at some random time of the day, is it neccessary to straighten backbone first as some times i am too lazy to do it?

* while deep breathing, which is most effective to chant side by side; mantra, counting or focusing on breathing itself?

*is it neccesary to squeeze out the last meter cube of air from stomach before inhaling next breath?

* does some chakra awakening works for shooters in some way like increasing endurance, focus or it is just hocus pocus?

Dear Amarinder,

Not that I am any Yoga guru or even a practitioner; but shall jump in Brihji's and Guruji's absence and share my 2 cents of experienced-based knowledge here.
1. While deep breathing it is necessary (rather advised) to keep the backbone straightened AT ALL TIMES. Why ? That would merit some detailed explanation, beyond scope.
2. It depends upon the purpose. A broad objective that most seek is calming effect and concentration. For that focusing on breath serves the purpose. But ordinary mortals find tough keeping all the spurious thoughts aside. One leads to the other and so on till the mind and finally the body gets agitated. Hence counting and chanting are mere aid tools to keep those thoughts aside.
3. Can anyone really do it ? Not unless the lungs "collapse" i.e. burst.
4. Methinks you got this one backwards. Increased endurance and focus help in awakening the chakras. But for this spiritual cocktail these two are *not* the only ingredients. "Hocus Pocus" ? That can only be explained by someone who claims the linkage.

Anyway, though OT, here's a (hi)story for you -

An agnostic student of science named Narendra once went to seek tutoring on "God" from a person once known as Gadadhar. This sage calmly and confidently told Narendra that not only had he seen God but interacted with the Divinity too. So Narendra put forth his query - "If everything is the Brahman then why do things appear so very different from each other. Some bipeds, some quadrupeds; some living, some non-living. So if this Brahman really exists, I would like to see/ experience that Brahman." The wise sage smiled and touched his forehead and what happened next is too difficult to explain in words. The young lad saw the entire world illumined. He could not distinguish one thing from the other or one person from the next or himself - they were all Him. He stumbled out of that room on to the road and right into the path of an on-coming horse-cart. He still could not distinguish between the on-coming danger and the road - they were all Him. His friends rescued him and carried him home but for next few days he could not eat or drink for days - how coud he gobble down Himself ? He even had trouble breathing ... HImself. Finally Narendra's mother could not take it any more and requested the sage to forgive her son and return him to normalcy. The sage obliged. The experience of this complete Shaktipat or awakening of all the Chakras in full bloom was so profound that Narendra became the sage's disciple. Now that was Narendra. As for me, I can still differentiate between an FWB and a Steyr; a gSmith pellet and an H&N pellet. May be that's why I still am a "novice" on IFG while Narendra Datta became famous the world over as Swami Vivekanand. Though Swami Vivekanand craved for this experience again all through his life, Ramkrishna Parhans refused since the pupil was not "fully ready", in spite of his greatness.

Are the Chakras hocus pocus ? Only the One who walks the Walk on the path of the Path will know and can say for sure. I drive. ;-)

Will get back to you, please give me some time.

Amarinder

Please keep it simple. Just stick to the basic technical aspects. if you read too much from too many sites, you will end up confused.

Regards to all

Ideally Yes. That's during Pranayam or relaxation. During trigger squeeze, different set of rules apply. Please refer to Guruji's lessons.

IMHO immaterial and inapplicable to shooting - following advice often impressed by Guruji and upacharyaji, I now follow the principle of "KISS" - Keep It Straight & Simple. Good luck.

Amar don't do self learning on chakras. These are very subtle yet powerful things, I am sure you can learn chakra balancing from a pranic healer or healing center. Please ensure that like in learning Yoga, you go to a teacher. You can go insane if the kundalini is awakened when you aren't ready for it.
Right now, please do the basics that HVJ1 sir has taught, it will really take you places.
