Re: TAVOR finally to be on sale in the US
Today I went to the range and a friend was there with two new rifles. One was a Tavor and the other was a SCAR 16. As luck would have it, I did not have a camera with me. Then another guy I knew showed up with a new Mosin with the Tula made replica scope on it. I shot that too. As I was getting ready to leave, yet another guy shows up with a couple of Garand rifles. So I got to shoot the Garand again.
A great day!
My impressions of the Tavor: Very short and handy, excellent pointability. Trigger was heavy but smooth. Very accurate, Handheld at 50 yards with an EOTECH red dot sight created about an inch and a half group. Very low recoil, almost like shooting a .22 LR.

XL, if you would like to start a new thread, I would appreciate even a short post on your experience with the Mosin. Even if you didn't like it, that's ok; I still would value your impressions.

Tim,
I only fired a couple of rounds with the Mosin. Not worth an entire thread.
Recoil was fine, tolerable even with only a T-shirt on and sitting at a bench. Several orders of magnitude less than a Remington 870 shooting 3 inch slugs (from the bench). He just got it, the 3.5X PU scope wasn't zeroed and the mount needed adjustment. Didn't hit paper at 100 yards. Was off the 8 1/2 X 11 inch sheet by about three inches. Maybe the next time Ed comes to the range with his horde of Mosin's, I'll hopefully have a camera along and will do an article. He did have one hex-receiver Mosin.
The Garand, on the other hand was shot from the prone position, with iron sights and whacked the bull right in the center every time (also at 100 yards).

Re: TAVOR finally to be on sale in the US
XL: They look so long and ungainly, and the M91 is even worse, being 3 inches longer, but I have found that the funny thing about them is that they balance and swing well for such clumsy looking rifles. The wood on the fore end is thin, and the barrel is thin as well. The stock looks like a canoe paddle, but it fits OK, as well.
If you get one with a bad trigger, it is horrible, but a normal trigger isn't really worse than other military rifles, despite the sear and trigger spring being combined to form the sear itself.
I have never shot a sniper version. I'll find it interesting to hear your impressions when your friend gets his rig tuned up.
Thanks!

Surprisingly good trigger though, Tim. Good enough that I didn't notice it till the second shot. It wasn't crisp and it didn't stack up like most military triggers, it just let off smoothly as I pulled it. The rifle was arsenal refinished. It had the square impressed on the receiver. Good looking rifle.

just be very careful, XL. I got that M39 for shooting in matches when I lost my job. It is true what some say, Mosins breed like rabbits. They can really get addictive.
