Lucky for them that the cheetah did not follow the gazelle into the SUV. Now that's a thought !brihacharan wrote:Gazelle escapes attack by two Cheetahs!

A government which cannot, or will not, remove slums in an area from where you can bring down a Boeing 747 with an airgun. Do we actually expect this government to care for leopards? (please note this is not about "a" government, i.e. one party or the other, but on our government as a whole, irrespective of which party is getting their Swiss accounts fattened).
Which undiluted imbecile decided to have a city and a national park cheek by jowl anyway?

The Kanheri caves have been there for ages so this chicken or egg is easy. Looking at the brighter side. We ought to take pride in the fact that we have a forest in the middle of the city. This aspect is highlighted but not adequately by fellow conservationists. It can be a USP for promoting tourism but has to be done right.essdee1972 wrote:Which undiluted imbecile decided to have a city and a national park cheek by jowl anyway?
The oldest "human populations" I can remember are,
1)encroachments and slums by people from the south in early sixties and
2)plots allotted to and houses built by BMC clerks. The lottery for plots was meant for everyone working in the BMC in the early and mid seventies but somehow only the clerks got all the allotments
So I guess it is safe to pin the blame on the BMC.

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

While we are on the topic.....let me do some publicity for the leopards of Mumbai and their home, the Borivli National Park.
