Old BRNO (Pics)
Sharing some pics of an old Brno. It is a Brno ZKK 601 in .223 Rem, a pleasant rifle to shoot all day long at the range.
The ZKK 602 in large calibers like .375 H&H were very popular in Africa probably because it was a working man's rifle. The actions are pretty good and I remember seeing one Rigby on a ZKK 602 action, then there is the Brno rimfires which are very popular even in India.

Beautiful rifle, Herb. I'll say hardly looks 'old'.
As you rightly mentioned a lot of us in India have a fond attachment to this name. I started my early years of shooting with club Brnos in .22 and continued for many memorable years. I hope to own one someday.

More than 50 years and still going strong! Was this the rifle that introduced you to shooting?Katana wrote:

Very much so! Now my son is at it. It's built so well, I think it could out live another generation

Nice rifle Katana, thanks for sharing. I too have a Brno in .22 LR and love it, so light and handy.
I love the Brno/CZ's as they are great value for the money. The Brno 601 has some nice touches..
the caliber making on the magazine follower
Bolt has a small extension that goes into a notch in the safety that prevents the bolt from moving when on safe.
The earlier 601's had also a built in peep site that could be flipped open.

Lucky generations!Katana wrote:Very much so! Now my son is at it. It's built so well, I think it could out live another generation
I studied in a boarding school that has about 10-15 Brnos that have trained a few generations- in some cases the sons shot with the same serial numbered rifles that there dads preferred. A fellow classmate while keeping the rifle on the gun rack saw this grandfather's name engraved on it on one corner- it was the same rack used by his grandfather!
Sadly, when I used them, I did not realise how privilidged I was in this country. The hope to own one still lives on..
Herb, I can't look enough at your collection of Brnos, wonderful rifles.
