Vikram is absolutely right. Some more information - the incident took place at the Aurora Sportsmen's Club where Amit took me for a very nice day of trap shooting just outside Chicago and where I have not been able to go since. APparently the club has banned the use of that particular gun because it flew right out of the hand of the owner when he fired it, hitting him in the head and leaving him bleeding profusely, something that the video does not, of course, show.

These days with the 585 Nyati and it's equivalents the 577 T-Rex, 585 GMA etc and the even bigger 600 OK rounds there are chamberings that are much more powerful than the 600 Nitro Express. What they are meant to do is something that I don't know. One of the first three 600 OK rifles was recently sold by it's owner on the AR forum classifieds after he had fired it "less than 10 times." I think I know the reason why.

Check this link,Gentlemen. Some discussion, too, on the pistol ( canon) etc. You will like it.

Personally, I really got no qualms with shooting these props to male vanity and/or treats to masochistic persuasions or genuine forays into creative/adventurous/fun ballistics (depending on ones stand point). I would like to try them all. But, using these weapons ( I call them weapons than hunting rifles) on animals is not for me. I know it does not make a difference for the animals. You can't shoot them deader. I can't put my finger exactly. Sorry, if I sounded like a spoil sport. But, that's me.

Simply too good, cleared my head, it did. Two things I wonder about:

1. Why was the young guy violently jerking the revolver before he actually fired?

2. Bearded guy dropped the gun: hope the scope came out okay.

Gentlemen,

The first video is of a "light" load which pushed the shooter back several feet. He is the person who owns the gun now, having bought it from the original owner. The man also has a 460 Weatherby handgun and he must be a real glutton for punishment! As far as shaking the gun is concerned, my theory is fear. I doubt that many people would gladly go out and shoot a 600 Nitro Express pistol if they knew what it was. What happens in the video does show that his fears were justified!

The second picture is of the original owner of the pistol shooting it with a full power load. What happened was that it flew out of his hands with the recoil and gouged him in the head, leaving him bleeding and badly injured, the point at which the cameraman decided (very wisely IMO) to stop filming the poor man's agony.

If you visit the Nitro Express forums, you would see a detailed discussion of this pistol. We are affiliated with them, by the way. :)

Cheers!

Mr. Kamdar,

That brings up an interesting question, on which your experienced opinion would be of interest: is a full-power .600 NE round beyond the barrier in terms of revolver "shootability", even assuming a large-framed shooter with perfect technique, padded gloves and prior mental preparation?

BTW, do pass on my wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured gentleman, if you happen to know him.

Revolver????All that I saw was a break barrel single shot pistol.Am I missing something.Considering the recoil,I don't think a quick second shot is on the cards.

Yup , Looks like a Thompson Center contender with a LER scope
penpusher, now you know how the good guys shot the guns out of the bad guys hands? they let the bad guys use a 600 nitro and the gun just flies out of their hands
Very wicked recoil!!

penpusher, el jefe,

My mistake. I confused this firearm with the German .600 NE revolver that I am sure you have seen pictures of on the net somewhere (otherwise I could find one for you).

My question would still be valid, though, and will wait to hear your opinion on it. Are there any approximate figures for foot-lbs of felt recoil, using a full-power .600 NE round in a TC Contender? I mean, hats off to both those brave souls, but I'm sure somewhere in this the physics has to go beyond human tolerances.

Just a hypothesis, though. Eagerly waiting for your and Mr. Kamdar's $0.02 on the matter.

TT,
There was a post a while ago by Mehul about some brave soul who epitomised the
"Artificial intelligence cant beat natural stupidity "
he was developing a hotrod cal for a heavy double and posted about the effects of 200+ rounds-had a 'pinchednerve' in the neck, severe motor disability and a definite motor deficit-read major muscle weakness!
he was on physiotherapy for the pinched neck nerve-which i very strongly suspect was a disc lesion and if untreated, would have given him a 'quad' status.
Well, as calibers go, there's a .900 and and a one incher floating around. But as I say often, all that needs to be shot by mankind has been-with a 7mm.
Envelopes are there to be expanded, to achieve what? The world thought that Roy Weatherby was a wunderkind with his high velocity, double radius concept-but the wild catters only used it as a stepping stone...
The 460 and 500 are offered as alaskan bear handgun calibers and are mentioned here in some previous posts. And there are stories (documented) about moose and polar bears shot with 22lr and 22 hornets...I leave you to your envelope ;)
Best
