Re: The Music Thread.
Flamenco doesn`t do it for me.
I had a line drawing of Andre Segovia on my bedroom wall when in my teens but can`t say I`m any more `into` classical guitar now than I was then. The catalogue of music dedicated to the classical guitar is mostly limited to Villa-Lobos ( or so it might seem anyway ) - the rest are transcriptions which work better with the original instruments I think.

Like Paco de Lucia? He does use a classical guitar though.Grumpy wrote:the rest are transcriptions which work better with the original instruments I think.
BTW, which guitar came first - the classical with it's nylon strings or the acoustic with the metal strings? I'd imagine it was the latter.

Re: The Music Thread.
Steel strings are a comparitively modern innovation - and so are nylon strings. I don`t know exactly when steel strings were invented but it was probably early in the 20th Century because they were in common use by the 1920s. The first nylon/nylon and bronze strings were developed just after WWII.
Gut strings preceded nylon strings by centuries ......
The gut strung classical guitar was in existence a LONG time before steel strung guitars.

Re: The Music Thread.
I have played with gut strung racquets but I have never heard a gut strung guitar or any other gut strung string instrument, for that matter.

Re: The Music Thread.
lol. Well, there was no choice until after WWII. You can still buy gut strings for classical guitars but they`re expensive.
A lot of violinists still use gut strings - especially for older material to achieve an `authentic` sound. Modern violin/viola/cello strings are made of stranded synthetic material mixed with fine metal strands.
Gut strings are not made of `cat gut` by the way .... and never have been. They`re made of sheep or cattle gut.
NEVER use steel strings on a classical guitar because you`ll wreck it. The bracing is just not suited to steel strings.

Or vice versa. The problem is many people can play well but few have musical genius.SRV is one man who made an effort not to play a song the same way twice.

Re: The Music Thread.
Another Joe Bonamassa track.
Although listed as `Mountain Time` this is actually two tracks run together - the first is called `INDIA`!
It changes to `Mountain Time @ 3:02
