Hi bhai Congrats on your new buy.For How much you got this?.Any combo lens kit with the pack?.Make sure you have a 50mm prime lens by that you can shoot Sharp image with blurred background.I prefer a prime lens first than a telescopic lens.Just my humble opinion.

Re: My New Shooting Toy
Congrats, Nice camera Baljit. Any reason you went went with Nikon & not Canon. Does it have video capability HD 1080 or 720?
You can get a fast lens like a 50mm 1.4 or 1.8 at at an affordable price, between the kit lens 18-55, a 50mm and a 70-300 you should have all your needs covered.

I like Nikons DSLR Cameras own a D 90. Important thing is to invest in nice lens as Herb pointed and learn to use it and experiment.Pain hauling it but pictures are worth it.
I like cannon's point and shoot. There are many websites out there on recommendations and advise try this http://www.kenrockwell.com/

Re: My New Shooting Toy
Congrats sir for NIKON D3000. nice to know about your photography hobby.
IMO 50mm f1.8 will be better for low light photography, Table top photography and Portraiture.
and 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED VR AF for wild life and birding photography.
One common thing i observed in persons having common hobby as shooting and photography is their vision. I can say that all of them must have LIONS HEART and EAGLES EYE just like you.

The lens comes with this package is AF 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 G II ED but still buying batter ones.

Keep shooting, paaji. With all kinds of "shooters"!
As the guys said above, just like guns, you'll find yourself adding new bells & whistles to this shooter, too!

Re: My New Shooting Toy
Baljit,
For an all purpose lens, probably nothing will beat this.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/6 ... 200mm.html
You can get this to go with your camera.A step up above the inbuilt flash and will not drain the camera battery
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/4 ... _Shoe.html
Do get a good tripod. You do not need a big heavy pro tripod.Something like this would serve you well

Re: My New Shooting Toy
Congrats Baljit, this is a great choice.
The standard kit lens is very sharp and will meet a lot of your requirements. The lens WTP has recommended will meet most of your requirements and is what I have been wanting to get for a very long time for my D40.
I only have 2 more recommendations: if you plan on doing a lot of night time photography with shutter speeds that run into a few seconds do make the small investment in a remote 'trigger' I've certainly found it useful for my shaky hands.
Always fight the tempatation to use it on preset or auto modes- Go manual!
Happy shooting!
Cheers,
SS
