Birds in Our Backyards

Changing lenses on a DSLR in the field is a big No No....you will have dust spots on the sensor.
Like everything else in the country, Un-CHS are also being managed by a bunch of buffons in many places...The society is like a mini political "akhada"
We lost our mini sanctuary and the 25yds range to a concrete filled car park.
Make another bird house with a smaller hole so that only sparrows can enter it and you should be fine. The sparrows in our backyard have decided not to occupy the birdhouse we made

Brihaji, I won't hide it here - I did buy the humungous set of lenses with the "different kind of birds" in mind!!

Re. FF's suggestion, whatever native place I had went to the "other side" in '47, so the idea of a green zone shall await the day I get enough green to buy some big place! And the uncooperative housing society turned my target shooting plot (a piece of waste land where people used to temporarily store construction debris) into a children's park. Filled it with sand, so the butterflies which used to flock in the weeds and wild grasses have now gone, and with them the few non-pigeon birds which preyed on the butterflies. I did manage to teach my kid fire making with flint & steel before it, though!

I did try making a bird house / bath / feeder just outside the window grill in my flat, but unfortunately, instead of sparrows as I had hoped, the damn nuisance pigeons started using it, so I chucked it away.

Yes , most of them are taken from My balcony , all are taken by sony DHC-H7 15X optical zoom however though it is my hobby I have yet to learn lot to give details like aperture , shutter speed etc. most of them ate take by auto mode.

Last one is a purple moorhen...
Second last looks like a Sh ag, maybe a pied Sh ag?
The sunbird looks like a male purple sunbird.

Rest I spot Egrets, Heron, Lapwing...

What I found very intersting was the male purple sun bird with it's "prey".
Adults are pure vegetarians feeding on nectar.
But when they are young and in the growing stage they need all the protiens from "non vegetarian" stuff.
The "prey" is not something this bird would feed on but something he is actually taking for his little ones in the nest.
