Sols,

Let me reiterate what I have said - as a police officer you are most welcome here. We do need to have more friends from the various government departments join us and participate in the discussions that we have on this site. There is often a mistaken notion about legitimate gun owners being boors in government quarters and we would like to have gentlemen in government visit us and see for themselves what we are doing. We do have members from the armed forces as members here and it is 100% encouraging if police officers also join. No two ways about that.

At the same time, we have anti gun activists who join the forum pretending to be gun enthusiasts and they deliberately post either misinformation or about actiuons thata re illegal and we have to be carefuol and weed them out. We are a respectable group and do not have any place for any criminally minded types here. Hence my initial note of reservation about your post.

Do check out Mumbai customs - they do have some very nice handguns on sale from time to time and as a police officer you should have hardly any problem getting yourself a license and buying one from them. Hell, yes, if you come to Chicago, you could get some shooting with some of us Indians who live here.

Cheers!

if granted licence for PB arms(which seems impossible) I will go for 38 bore revolver which I finds to be most accurate. It can be of any make i tried to apply for it but my friends discouraged me.It is also simpler to handle.

hi sols
In US there is no restriction to purchase a weapon(varies state to state) but at the most you have to be a member of a shooting club. as your wife is working there and if she is going to be there for more that 2 years. she can buy a weapon and bring it to india in TR (transfer of residence) and it will be confesicated on arival and later can be released after adjudication on production of a valid license in her name.

Don't Customs give one only 90 days to clear detained goods (doesn't have to be just guns)? If so, that may not give a person much time to get a licence. Better to have a valid licence before hand.
