Amazing videos, any guess on the cal.
What beats me is why do all these folks use scopes, any where bet 50 to 100 yds open sights should do.
Would speak well of the hunter too.
Scopes make it too easy, may be I belong to the old school of thought.
Cheers

Sanjay, open sights for static target shooting is one thing and open sights in the wild for hunting is another.Sanjay";p="19606 wrote:What beats me is why do all these folks use scopes, any where bet 50 to 100 yds open sights should do.

It has nothing to do with being old school or new school. It is the hunter's duty to put down the animal quickly and cleanly and a scope does help in achieving that objective.

That, people, is AWESOME.
Hats off to the photog too, who kept the scene in focus!
I would not want to be doing that for a living all the time.

Thanks Sat for the video.Awesome. The leopard kept coming despite being hit by both the rifles. At one shot it's clear that the back was broken. And still it kept going.I might get flamed here, but the odds against the leopard were simply too high. This is not to take the credit due to the grey haired gentleman who verily moved like a ballerina.Just a word of appreciation for the beast too.
I my self am partial to open sights and do not think scopes are really useful in DG hunting at close quarters.I have nothing against scopes. But would prefer to practice more to compensate for the advantage of scopes.
Best-
Vikram

If the leopard didn't have his back broken already, I assure you they wouldn't know when he landed upon them and tore them to shreds. I certainly wouldn't call this an attacking leopard. The leopard is the hero nevertheless in this clip.

Re: leopard charge video....
I think there could be more rifles as backup which we cannot see in the video, full mark to the camera man too & the 'ballerina' client, he was shooting from the hip.
Had the leopard not had a damaged rear, I do not think they would have had time to cycle the bolt for the 2nd shot.
I have seen some footage of another leopard charge. This wounded leopard took 0.67 seconds to cover the 9 paces to the pro hunter, a rhodhesian ridgeback dog had warned the client & ph about the presense of the leopard.. the leopard was shot by the ph with 2 well placed shots from a 12ga shotgun. The leopard still managed to injure the ph in the shoulder & arm..
