A small suggestion - pro gun news

Posts that don't fit into any other category. If it's anything to do with guns, it probably doesn't belong here!

A small suggestion - pro gun news

Post by essdee1972 » Sat Apr 20, 2013 11:43 am

Friends, I had a thought. The incidents of gun violence are publicised ad nauseum in every forum. In this situation, we pro-gunners are at a loss to explain why guns can save lives. Perhaps we can have a thread, where we collate links to news items where someone, somewhere has used a gun to save lives. For example, a lady whose 0.32 has saved her from being raped, etc. Threads like the ones about more women in Delhi (or wherever) opting for licenses can also be merged here.

We can also use this thread to share good news about gun laws worldwide.

I know the self defense section has many such stories, but a single thread will help to collate all that information. And if the mods can make it a sticky, it'll be great!
Cheers!

Great idea !

Unfortunately most of the media is biased . A mentally ill / unstable person will shoot 5 persons with a firearm , the story will go on for 2 months ; 50 persons will be saved by the use of a firearm , it won't even get mentioned .

I found this today on the "The Right To Bear Arms " page of Facebook .
Early Sunday morning, April 7, in Lumberton, Texas three robbers kidnapped and robbed one woman, but when they moved on to rob two more women they were met with an unexpected surprise. According to a report by 12 News Now, one of the would-be victims brought their robbing spree to a halt when she shot one of them.

The three robbers, identified as 21-year-old Scott Willis, Jr., 21-year-old Malik Washington, and 21-year-old Ariel Malveaux, all of Beaumont, have apparently been targeting women as victims of robberies since last month.

I think that this is a good idea, but there is one thing I'm concerned about. If the thread can have reports of such incidents from around the world, it does show the beneficial aspects of personal gun ownership. On the other hand, some may question the relevance of non-Indian events to the situation in India.

Exactly. We have too few pro-gun stories in the news here.

Timmy, exactly my point. If a gun can stop a crime from occurring in, say Texas, it can stop similar crimes in India. More ammo (pun intended!) to those of us who are fighting for RKBA in India.

Skyman, that's why I am requesting a common thread, where the group most interested in RKBA, can refer even such rare instances instead of hunting through the mazes of the World Wide Web.

FN-five-seven, amidst the flurry of media coverage of "bad gun" news, it is not easy to hunt "good gun" stories to counter our anti or fence-sitting friends. Which is where a common thread might help.
Cheers!

Good idea. I'm sure Timmy and other US based members(of the NRA persuasion) have probably read the stories in the NRA-ILA publications. It is called "Armed Citizen".
Follow the link to check out the format. http://www.nraila.org/gun-laws/armed-citizen.aspx

Each story has the date of the incident, and a synopsis of the story as it appeared in the news. There's no reason not to choose a similar title, such as "The Armed Citizen" or "Armed India".
Maybe you won't find many gun related stories in the news. Perhaps a citizen with a knife or cricket bat may apply.

Here's a sample:
February 7, 2013

70-year-old basketball coach defends self and players, WXYZ, Detroit, Mich. 02/04/13
The women’s basketball coach at Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Detroit, Mich. was walking two players to their vehicles when a pair of armed criminals approached. The 70-year-old coach was grabbed by one of the robbers, who then threatened him with what appeared to be a gun. After a brief struggle, the coach, a Right-to-Carry permit holder, drew a pistol and shot both criminals, killing one and landing the other in the hospital.
