Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Today's diary:
- The pulse rate has come down to normal under 60 at rest after about 10 days. So things are going towards normalcy.
Physical training:
- 12/15 minutes of Pranayam
- 5 minutes of stretching & warm-up
- 40 Push-ups. 15 reps x 2 + 10 rep x 1
- 15 minutes of core muscle strengthening exercises (with breaks in between to recover)
- 4 x 20 sec hanging from the horizontal bar to strengthen the shoulder muscles and the wrist
- 3 x 3 reps of half squat (Just started after shunning the word impossible)
- 30 minutes of light jogging (4.5km approx)
- 50 sit-ups: 5 x 10 reps
- Leg stretching to end up
Technical training:
- Proper warm-up
- Reduced the gap of the rear side notch which resulted in better perception of the sight picture.
- 60 reps of figure 8s with the Free Pistol. 30 reps by both hands; vertical and sleeping 8 both clockwise and anticlockwise with the right hand. Only vertical 8 + 5 sec hold with the left hand.
- 40 holds of 10 seconds each under the black bindi.
All the above done with proper execution of SOA
- Stretching
Mental training:
- Relaxation Response / Shavasana: Felt asleep after the 5th command. It was heavenly. Woke up after sometime to continue till the end. Left the bed completely rejuvenated, full of energy and above all with an uncontrollable smile of pleasure.
- Played with daughter in the evening and extended the pleasure.
- Tomorrow will be a joy ride with the muzzleloaders.
best regards

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Hi tirpassion,
> Ur diary entry is commendable
> Ur physical training schedule too is impressive - Would like you to add these 3 exercises too....
1. Hip rotation - Stand with feet 18" apart with hands held at your hips - Turn your upper body by 90 deg to your right - Repeat to left. 2 sets x 10 reps > This is to strengthen your hips.
2. Gather all 5 fingers of both hands - Fold your arms at the elbow & place the cupped finger in the hollow of your shoulders. This will leave your elbows pointing straight ahead. Now rotate your arms clockwise 10 reps x 3 sets - Repeat anticlockwise. This will strengthen your shoulders & provide extreme mobility to it.
3. While Pushups are good - Also do Suryanamaskar.... Very Good to stretch your spine & keep it supple. 2 sets x 10 reps.
4. Neck exercises -
a) Forward stretches 2 sets x 10 reps
b) Neck rotation - clockwise & anti clockwise - 2 sets x 10 reps > Good for avoiding "Cervical Spondilosis" = Neck Pain also helps blood circulation to the brain.
Cheers

Thanks brihaji for your suggestions.
For the rest, I will have to incorporate them somewhere in the day.

In fact, I always do the neck exercises as a part of the warm-up session / stretching before starting the physical training or any sort of technical training.4. Neck exercises -

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Hi everyone,
I finally purchased a lp10(mechanical) last week. Initially, there were some difficulties in getting used to the larger grips, but after one week, it feels comfortable now. I have also done some trigger and sight adjustments.
Have started doing pull ups to improve strength in hands. Was able to do only 2-3 till last week. Gradually, now able to do 5(I am quite a heavy person at 6ft/ 84 kgs, so trying to work on that as well) .
Hey tir,
Didn't go for K12 as it would have taken close to two months for import, etc. So bought the lp10 directly from NRAI office in Delhi.
Regards,

Rest of mental training merged with Briha Sir's 'Developing mental toughness for Air Pistol Shooting.' Hope that is okay with Guruji and the rest of my brothers' in arms.

you might have to take a bit of more pain in separating the original thread started by Guruji
'Mental Training for Sport and General Life' which has got merged with TOPS.

Is it possible???

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Hi Dev,
Absolutely no problem merging it with Brihaji's thread.
Diary:
1. Increased the windlmilling to 50 reps.
2. Arm is definitly improving. I had started of on the theory, that due to muscle atrophy, the remaining muscles and nerves may have been overstrained due to controlling Rambo, who at 80 kg plus is impossible to control when he is in attack mode. Since the muscles are building up, this has reduced the pain. So the theory at least for now is bearing up.
3. The bidofeedback trg. is also working, but I must add a cautionary note. When you are completely in a deep state of relaxation, sudden movements are detrimental. For exmaple, I suddenly tend to throw my arm around, this causes some problems. The best thing is to move them very gradually.
Regards.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Dear Guruji,
Please accept this post from my part as a humble tribute to your selfless contribution, your lessons of deep insight in shooting sports and the time & effort you have been giving to all of us aspiring shooters on IFG.
Sir, I have been working on the black powder shooting since last 2 weeks and was preparing particularly for the two events (25m revolver & flintlock pistol) where I missed the MQS for the Nationals. Last weekend, I shot the Regional Championships (the last chance to attain the MQS and qualify) and clinched my qualification to the Nationals in both these events. So, this year I have qualified for the French Nationals in all the five events I shoot in MLs .
The significant thing is that I scored my personal best score in 25m revolver; 96/100 (The MQS stands at 92/100 and during the Districts I had scored only 89/100). The weather was not on my side; gloomy sky with light rain and hide & seek game of the Sun. But i just thought about your words
I have done it; I conquered myself and the bad weather conditions, I did my personal best in black powder revolver and achieved my qualification at the same time; 96/100, which I sincerely dedicate to you. I thank you again for your eternal guidance and to your endless blessings to all of us.
If I may humbly add again, I scored my personal best in matchlock pistol also the very next day; 89/100 (the MQS for Nationals is 75/100 and I had already qualified during the District championships with 76/100).
my sincere regards

and took the first shot. It was a 7 at 6 O'clock. I simply lifted the gun inside the black circle and shot on my SOA. 10, 10, 9, 9. Reloaded the next 5 shots, shot another 9 and changed to the adjoining target; 8, 10, 9, 10. Loaded the last three and kept on grinding myself for the perfect work. Shot the first one and grimaced because the hold snooped. Thankfully it was a 9 at 6 O'clock. I analyzed also that it was out of expectation of score. So breathed out all the stress and shot another 10. Now, I was aware of a good score. But I could finally manage myself after two shot cancellations. Hit the 10th ring in the last shot and YELLED out of joy only to be warned by the judges .4. Now regarding the play of light on the target, I simply IGNORED the bloody thing, since I had no choice. I NEVER EVER BOTHERED ABOUT MY AIMING AREA, TRUSTING MY MIND AND SUBCONSCIOUS to take care of it. AND mind you, that is the holy truth till today, i dont bother about my aiming area, nor do i consciouly THINK about it. I JUST SHOOT. The Aiming area takes care of itself.
I have done it; I conquered myself and the bad weather conditions, I did my personal best in black powder revolver and achieved my qualification at the same time; 96/100, which I sincerely dedicate to you. I thank you again for your eternal guidance and to your endless blessings to all of us.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Dear all,
I just got the final results of the Regional championships of Muzzleloaders. It was an overall fine outing for me and I can not help but share my pleasure with you all. And here goes tirpassion to blow his own trumpet .
25m Revolver: 96/100. Rank 1 out of 53 shooters (A golden colour small metal disc is waiting for me )
25m Matchlock pistol. 89/100. Rank 2 out of 10 shooters (The same metal disc as above with a silver plating this time )
25m Percussion pistol: 94/100. Rank 3 out of 56 shooters (Here I am supposed to collect a copper colour metal object out of surprise/good luck. Just made it to the 3rd place because I had better inner ring 10s than two more shooters who scored 94 also. In case of same score, I have always been eliminated earlier. So this time also, I just ignored. But the surprise was a nice one)
25m Flintlock pistol: 83/100. Rank 5 out of 17 shooters.
50m Revolver: 72/100. Rank 10 out of 20 shooters.
The nationals are from 23rd to 26th May. In between, the 50m FP is calling me for added attention.
best regards

Dear tirpassion,
Heartiest congratulations for qualifying into the Nationals in all the five ML events. I share your joy, your excitement and your sense of purpose and hope to share some of your sense of dedication too... soon. When good scores are accompanied by clanking of metals it's even better. So here's to you -
