1953 SIMSON, SUHL (THURNGEN) Doube barrel 12B - NOT FOR SALE

Hi all,

I have a November 1953, SIMSON, SUHL (THURNGEN), double barrel in pristine condition. I have no idea what the value of this is. Im hoping someone could shed some light on it. I will try to attach some pictures of the gun. it has SPEZIL-GEWEHRLAUFSTAHL ( Germal Special Steel ) on the side of the gun, model 12/70 i think.

some little info i found on the internet: The company Simson was created 1856 by the two Jewish brothers and Moses Simson in the Thuringian city Suhl. The company was jewish-owned and the Nazis took control in the mid-1930's changing the name to " Berlin Suhler Waffen".

just to make it clear, this is not for sale. I am just curious as to what it is worth today in India. does it have antique value? is it a very common gun? I'd like to know what i have!

Is it a SXS or O/U?

12/70 would be 12 bore/2,3/4" chambers.Not the model.

Pics including all the markings, especially on barrel flats, will help.

All the Suhl makers were combined under communist rule, depending were guns were being exported to, the name on them may be different. SxSs are usually of the Sauer pre-war boxlock pattern. "Special Gewehrlaufstahl" simply means "special gun barrel steel". "12/70", as Vikram has pointed out, means 12 gauge with 70mm (2 3/4") chamber.

Here you go. This one belongs to my father. It's a Simson hammerless .12 bore boxlock with a cross bolt and pin type load indicators and choke in the left barrel. The shell ejectors are single selective type. Barrels are 32 inches.

I've attached a pic of the proof marks. If anyone can decipher them, all the better.

He must have purchased it in the late '50s or early '60s, and it has seen a fair amount of shooting.

Could be the same as yours. These do carry value in India but it would be difficult to give a fair estimation.

Thats great news.. just looking for a ballpark figure.. as mentioned, not really interested in selling it, just happy to inherit it..and would like to learn as much as possible about it. its a S/S.

If you are not selling it then why do you want to know the price? As far as price goes,there is no MRP on them.It varies from state to state and from dealer to dealer.

There are two ways in which you came by this gun.You either bought it or you inherited it.If you bought it it would not be too long ago as you are only 28.In this case you would not be completely unaware of what it is worth.

If you inherited it,the sentimental value should far outweigh any monetary one.

i inherited it.. my grandfather bought this gun, brand new and has been in the family since. im guessing he bought it in the 50s. like i mentioned before, looking for a ballpark figure and if this particular gun is a rare one and or has antique value?

Agree with you whole heartedly , WTP. I grew up watching my father shoot his gun often. All I got to do with it was to clean it after the day was over. But that laid the foundations of my fundamentals of gun safety and responsibility. Maybe that is also why I have kept his guns in as pristine a condition as I can.

It is neither rare nor an antique.Good decent gun that could fetch anywhere between Rs.80,000-150,000, depending on your luck.This is my estimate only and I could be wrong.

Being your father's gun, I'm sure it means more to you than just the monetary value.
