Where can i buy paracord from at reasonable rates? The 550 kind.

Oliveplanet and ebay (dot com, not dot in) both have decent stuff at approx. Rs. 6.50-7.00 per foot (if you go for 100 foot lengths), incl. shipping.

I recently bought 1000 feet (yeah, that's a thousand) of OD coloured paracord from amazon.com for about Rs. 4.76 per foot, incl. shipping. The catch was that this is commercial spec paracord, not mil spec. Which means that the inside 7 strands have two strands each, instead of 3 for mil spec. (I think I am being a bit unclear - in mil spec cord, the 7 inner strands are each made of 3 finer threads twisted together, in commercial spec the same 7 inner strands have only 2 threads twisted together). I needed it basically for making knife handles and lanyards, hanging mosquito curtains, clothes drying, and suchlike purposes, wherein the paracord is better than shoelaces and pyjama strings!!
Cheers!

Thanks, but too expensive in both cases. Will you be a dear and send some over from your vast stock? What's the tensile strength of the stuff you bought?

Didn't test!! Reviews on amazon.com say 450-500, but the product description says 550.

Why do you need paracord? If it's for trekking and suchlike, you need the 550. However, paracord can not be used as a climbing rope. It seems a 150 lb human being can put instantaneous forces upto 900 lb while climbing!

Somehow, I assumed you are in Bangalore. If so, can't you catch hold of someone in HAL / IAF base? They have kilometres of the stuff to use for ............. well parachutes!! Of course, I can spare a few feet on a "non-profit" basis!!
Cheers!

Hmm...I don't know anyone at HAL/IAF but that is a good idea.I need it mainly for wrapping, and some other purposes for which ordinary rope/thread will not suffice.

Now send some sweets along too. :D
