Decathlon Sports
A bit of good news for people in Bangalore & Mumbai - Decathlon Sports has got approval to sell in retail (B2C as opposed to the earlier B2B license they had). I was there on the weekend (my better half runs a pre-school, and hence we had the B2B cards), and the store manager told us the news.
Now a query: these guys have pretty decent and decently-priced sports and outdoor clothing, does anyone have experience of their equipments? Say flashlights, hiking poles, rucksacks, etc. I was looking for some relatively inexpensive things to keep in the car(s), and the Decathlon stuff, though not world-beating, looks pretty value-for-money.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Decathlon Sports
I had purchased 2 hiking poles, one bicycle, one tent and equipment like shoes socks clothing etc...
I do not have any problems with whatever I have purchased so far.
This is the best place to find many things under one roof at a reasonable price.
Are you from Bangalore or Mumbai?

Re: Decathlon Sports
Dear essdeeji,
I am a big fan of Decathlon. They have their own brands named Quechua, Kalenji, Domyos etc. These products are real value for money. I wear Quechua trekking shoes, have a Quechua rucksack, snow boots, jogging apparel (material that breathes, evacuates sweat but retains your body temperature) for moderate and cold climate etc etc... They are eqaully good as big brands and much cheaper; the result is that I hardly waste money on names (big brands)
I do not have experience on the flashlights and trekking material but for any other sport equipment like tennis, badminton, table tennis racquets, balls, golf, football, archery etc etc their products are very good.
best regards

Dear tirpassion, I hope what shall get sold in India would match up in quality to those sold in EU. Hopefully they put up some shooting stuff too at affordable prices e.g. H & N Pellets.
Dear SD, any plans of re-visiting the Mumbai store ? Would not mind taking a peek at some stuff. The IFG MCM Gang will have its April dates all marked out.

Re: Decathlon Sports
Thanks, Guys! Iceman and Tirpassion........
Iceman, I am from Mumbai, visited the Mumbai store this weekend, but I have visited the Bangalore (Sarjapur road) store about 2 years back, bought some apparel (hats and all).
I actually liked the flashlights. Should be good enough to keep in the car for emergencies. Don't want to spend on a Surefire or something similar for this purpose. The bikes were also cool!
AGN, the products are the same. Prices are good (of course with the EU=INR conversion, maybe not so cheap as in EU, but still..........). In case you are fond of visiting Kashmir in November (like I did), this place is probably the only place apart from that Crawford Market place where you can get very good cold gear. And any Sat will do for a peek, now that the shop is free for all (finally something we can thank the sarkar for!!). We can also visit the village lohaar while we are about it.
The Mumbai shop (sorry, I forgot to mention) is on Ghodbunder Road, Thane, just above Hypercity. (ok, ok, it's not Mumbai, technically.....).

After all, everything is made in the countries, only a missile's throw away from India (from Agni to Brahmos) . So quality wise they should match up with what is seen in Europe.
Just for your information, only one outlet of Decathlon in Paris sells ammunition; .177 pellets, .22 rimfire ammo and big bore ammo also if I am not wrong.

Re: Decathlon Sports
Made it there at last. Got myself a set of camo trousers and tee. All around 1200 bucks. Wish to visit it again in "fursat" . With the winter setting in, a sleeping bag is on my radar. Thanks essdee1972, for the introduction to the stores and its locale. regs, A.essdee1972 wrote:AGN, game for Sat visit?
