> The conventional Air Rifle (AR) comes with a Spring assembly consisting of:
1. Spring
2. Rear Guide
3. Top Hat
> In a Gas Ram (Gas Piston) AR the spring assembly is replaced by a Gas Ram / Gas Strut.
> Unlike the spring powered AR where the spring undergoes fatigue over a period of time (say approx. 5000 shots) the Gas Ram has a longer life (more than 10,000 shots)
> You cannot keep a spring powered AR cocked for a long time - Whereas a Gas Ram powered AR can be kept cocked for longer durations.
> Gas Ram powered ARs deliver approx. deliver 10% to 15% more velocity / power than Spring powered ARs.
> Gas Ram powered ARs require slightly more cocking pressure than Spring powered ARs.
> Gas Ram powered ARs require less maintenance / lubrication than Spring powered ARs.
> Gas Ram powered ARs produce comparatively less vibration than Spring powered ARs - almost no spring twang.
> BTW not all spring powered ARs can be converted to Gas Ram powered ARs. The procedure is very elaborate & requires the services of a qualified Gunsmith.
> Gas Ram ARs are relatively smoother to shoot as compared to Spring powered ARs.
