One knife for life.Which one?

Post by Skyman » Fri Mar 15, 2013 9:55 am

If you could have one knife to carry with you all the time, which would it be? One which you could use for almost every task you face.In short, if you could have only one knife for the rest of your life, which would it be?

I want to get a good fixed blade i can carry all the time. The esse 3 and 4 are strong contenders.
I would rather hit my target gently than miss hard.

The ESEE 3 is preferred. Lighter, less printing, thinner and much more adaptable. The ESEE 4 is a very good knife too. But the ESEE 3 pips it at the post.

Skyman, my cost is not important. Its about USD 116 on www.knifecenter.com add shipping and customs and it will probably cost you about USD 170. Thats approximately INR 9300. Please check the numbers yourself. This is just an approximation from me.

No fixed blade for me, as it can be cumbersome to carry. A folder with thick blade and a high flat or fully flat grind. The ZT 0550 is a strong contender, and so is the Spyderco Paramilitary. I recently got a Grayman Dua, and I am surprised at how fit and finish can improve the ergonomics. Probably that one may be the only one I'd carry - only usage wil tell.

How many knives do you have in your kitchen, only one? :)

Speaking of folders, i think they are as bulky, if not more than a fixed blade. But i suppose carrying a folder is more sensible for CC.

What about the izula folder that will come out?

Vaporware? You mean mirage or something?

What about RAT folders? Aren't they a little cheaper to buy but good quality?

While a khukri can be concealed amidst your ponderous girth, it is not so in mine ROTFL .

I was asking more on the lines of a CC fixed blade or at best a 3-4 in blade camping knife, like the Esse's.I was looking at the E-4.What is the advantage of the clip point over the regular? Have you used it? I am thinking of getting a 4 over a 3.What do you suggest? You have a 3 which you showed me do you not?

It strikes me for about 5K, the esee's are the best there is.What say you?
