which part of India do you wish to explore? I can tell you about the mighty Forts of Maharashtra. PLENTY of them here. each one is unique and truly a trekkers paradise.

Check out Facebook and similar sites, there are groups from Delhi (and all parts of the world) into trekking. You can also check out some of the travel sites like indiamike.com. Similar to this (IFG) site, these are forums (or should it be fora?) and you can get in touch with members.

And as for places, you live an overnight journey from the Mighty Himalayas. You can do anything from trekking to serious climbing there - with all the caveats, of course!

Better to start with some small trek, say 4-5 days. For one-two day rambles, take yourself to Ranikhet or Manali or Dharmshala for rambling walks in the woods. There's a good 30 km (to & fro total) trek ex-Dharmshala - quite easy for youngsters (at my age I need a danda). My family managed about 12 km of the outgoing, then we turned back (kid was 5 then, walked all the way). In UK (Uttarakhand, not the Queen's domain), Pindari is a good starter (that's the one I started from, 22 years ago). But..... it takes a full day ex-Kathgodam by road to start the walk, then 4-5 days trekking, then again one day to get back to Kathgodam.

I'm gonna trek for 10-15days. I just really need a place where not a lot of people go for trekking, but is awesome like on a level of lord of the rings or even twilight for that matter. Just want to get in touch with the nature.

I can't decide which trek to go on. I've done so much research on the project but eventually it all comes down my physical fitness and uniqueness of the trails on hills. Please help me decide on the basis of your experience/experiences.

Has anyone been to the kashmir great lakes? If Yes, then how was it?

Seeda: as Naga suggests, my dream since I was a little kid was to take that Darjeeling Railway. But my #1 trip must be to take that Nilgiri Railway to Ooty -- the one you see SRK dancing on in Dil Se. I understand it is common to see elephants and other wildlife along the route. You could get off on one stop and trek to another and get back on board.
