@essdee

Yes, I thought they were good to have hollows handles because the things like fire starter and compass can be put in them. Also when you have cords on top of the handle it can come in handy many times.

And start carrying it around in your pocket and using it. In a year, decide what you like about it and what you do not like about it, and then buy something else.

Before you know it, you have a whole drawer full of knives, LOL!

The Victorinox "Rucksack" and "Outrider" are also nice, but they are bigger and the bigger the knife the less likely it is for you to have it on your person when you need it.
Totally agree Mark... experience counts :D
Although, carrying a fixed blade in a crowded place like Kolkata is a bit dicey!
Essdee I will differ .... For more than a month I am carrying an Esee Izula 1 given to me by my Guruji, a master of blades... and more.
I wear jeans ( mostly Levis standard fit) all the time and the sheathed Izula disappears in my front pockets. Right now,as I type, it is there in my right pocket alongside a 20s pack of smokes and a lighter. I can't even feel it. Nobody notices it - there is no bulge, no protrusion... Yet I can deploy it faster than a folder and do whatever I want to without having to bother about damaging the blade, locking mechanism, oiling, cleaning lints etc etc..

Cheers
TC

Sorry, TCda, I should have clarified - fixed blades like Khuks - big ones. I was continuing from the khuks and just kept typing!! The Esee Izula (have seen Moin's) is a cool tool. I plan to go for the similarly-profiled BK14/Eskabar "soon"! Not the pink, blue, etc. colours, though, plain black. Currently EDC-ing the Opinel folder gifted by Monsieur Tirpassion.
Cheers!

Essdee, I know you were referring to the khuks... just could not resist the temptation to pull your leg and show off.. My guruji gifted me his own Izula that he used to carry all day :D :D My Guruji is a great guy :D Even before I got it in my hands he told me that once I put it in my pocket I would never use anything else.. that's the sign of a true master of blades.. :D
Can we see the Opinel if you don't mind :D

Dear SD, The Opinel is a blade magnifique but a far cry from "survival" knife IMHO. Like I said the other said the beauty of L' Opinel lies in its simplicity. A good EDC undoubtedly. But then I am not quite the blade guy nor do I usually go over the edge. ;-)

TCda, would love to have darshan of your guruji sometime..... learn something.... And, you should have realised by now that I am extremely lazy as far as putting pics are concerned, but will try......

AGN, the "survival" stuff is stuck all over the lappie bag, car, etc. The EDC is only for pockets, mainly meant for life threatening emergencies like cutting fruits, cakes, opening packages, etc. (Did I tell you about the time I got a large delivery from a printing company, and the guy told me to open & check, and I took out a 7.5" khukri to cut the package?).
Cheers!

No, but the expression on his face would have done credit to Sir Charles himself (remember the scene from the Great Dictator when the globe he's playing with bursts?).

How about gerber's BG paracord knife...

From what I saw on youtube it looks super! Also it might or might not be used as throwing knife. Even a spear can be made out of it.

I'll be careful about any BG merchandise, there are far many complaints and the quality is sub par. Check quality reports before you commit money on a BG blade...
