Re: Pakistan Commandos
Hi Pa'aji;
I've read and keep reading lot of non fiction Special Forces Literature. SF through out the world train with live ammunition including the US Tier 1 SF SFOD Delta. (Ref: Inside Delta Force by Eric Haney and Delta Force by Col. Charlie Beckwith.) Given the secretive nature of SF training and operations doubt the Pakistani SSG would indulge in such demos and let it be recorded on videos for the internet. This must be some regular infantry unit. Even after the Mumbai Ops when Sachin and Dhoni visited the NSG training grounds only things like daily Physical Training martial arts practice, jawans shooting MP5's at matkas was shown. None of the officers of the 51SAG were shown on video for obvious reasons.
Regards
Moin.

That is one of the dumbest, most irresponsible and unprofessional things I have seen in a while.Baljit wrote:Hello guy's

I don't know who these guys were but they aren't an elite unit in anyone's army.

Probably inspired by some 3rd grade Bollywood movie.
Some years ago I saw a show on TV.I remember one part well. There was this commando standing infront of Mahatma Gandhi's bust with a garland hanging over it (attached to a thread). The guy shoots the thread and the garland falls perfectly on the murti.

Re: Pakistan Commandos
Its a very common practice amongst sf/cdo's...even in nsg also their is peer/buddy shooting in which a pair faces each other...behind them are tgts and they shoot at the tgts...so its not very uncommon practice...whats uncommon is its display in public forrum...i believe this unit must have gone for a long route march not for the practice but for the leak

Re: Pakistan Commandos
This isn't the SSG,SSGN or the SSW, their camo is different. Could be a SWAT type unit because in South Asia, a police special unit is named Commando too, the Punjab Police is a great example for that.
If you want an opinion on the unit itself the SSG is very well trained and skilled. They seem to be more on the lines of the British SAS, requiring compulsory 2 years military service and having Counter Terrorism units within the SSG rather than a separate one like the Americans, IMO their CT units are very good and it'd be foolish to underestimate them. Luckily they haven't been used well against India but they fought well in covert ops against the Soviets in Afghanistan during the 80's. Here is a video showing the real deal.
A small fact that I'd mention, after 9/11 some officers in the Paki. Army were angry that their Nation had sided with the US against the same Jihadis they supported, so some left including two brothers who were in the SSG, Maj. Haroon Ashiq and Capt. Khurram Ashiq chose that path. Both are suspected of training the Mumbai terrorists and the senior one is suspected of killing Gen Amir Alavi who was the head of the SSG at one point of time.

Hello Boris, boris wrote:IMO their CT units are very good and it'd be foolish to underestimate them.
Nobody is underestimating them, however what is shown on the video is incredibly foolish.
What do you mean by "LUCKILY" they havent been used well against India? THEY, have been throwing their best since 1947 at India, and they continue to do so. The only difference is that Indians dont advertise the number of times they have been repulsed effectively.Luckily they haven't been used well against India but they fought well in covert ops against the Soviets in Afghanistan during the 80's.
Mind you Boris, there are brave men on both sides of the border. But falso Bravado is so crass!
So there you are!, So what kind of professionalism is that? They kill their own senior officers, they use rabid dogs high on drugs to kill innocent women and children regardless of their religion on BOTH sides of the border and then you say that we are 'lucky' that these fellows are not used against us? What do you think Boris, our chaps are sitting on their hands?A small fact that I'd mention, after 9/11 some officers in the Paki. How come there are no videos showing the so called prowess of the Indian, Special Forces? Unless it has escaped you, that is CLASS, that is Professionalism, we dont unzip our trousers and piss on the walls and gleefully say "CAN YOU PISS HIGHER THAN THIS?" We leave THAT to the 'BOYS".

May I remind you all that IFG has members from Pakistan too and we strictly operate here on the basis of sportsmen without frontiers principle? This is not an appropriate forum for India Vs Pakistan discsussions. Please limit yourselves to the actions shown on the video.Thank you for your kind co-operation.

The fellow sitting and holding the targets appears to be wearing the "Elite" T-Shirt. Look at the two pistol logo a bit closely.....

As for doing these stunts, I have read two stories. One training op involved the British PM Margaret Thatcher (and some of her colleagues) acting as a hostage and the bad guys were man size targets, in close proximity to, which were taken out by SAS Snipers. This exercise was done to instill "coolness" (I remember the word being used) in the snipers.
The second story involved an operator shooting his handgun into his colleague who was wearing a bullet proof vest, here the idea was that the operator should be able to get accustomed getting hit in the vest and continue functioning and not get affected by the shock of the bullet impact.
It is very easy to mistake SF Operators as supermen, but the fact of the matter is they are at the apex of mental discipline and physical stamina. Both qualities not found in 99.99% human beings.....

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.
