Which airlines currently permit travel with air-rifles?

Posts that don't fit into any other category. If it's anything to do with guns, it probably doesn't belong here!

Which airlines currently permit travel with air-rifles?

Post by Mack The Knife » Thu Mar 07, 2013 6:55 pm

The search has turned up options such as Indian Airlines, Indigo, Spice-Jet and Jet Airways. However, I need to be certain which airlines, in India, currently permit air-rifles as checked-in baggage.

Thanks.

go air does but charge 5k, not sure if they mean airguns as arms? according to website when booking a ticket it gives an option for arms and ammo at 5k cost.

spice jet does, but they sometime demand stupid docs like NRAI LETTER, DGFT LETTER and such like. i think most airlines nowdays charge 5k.

if you say it can not be done, then you are right, for you, it can not be done.

Thanks Nags.

I am asking on behalf of a member who's post is not going through. He has checked with his travel agent but did not get a reassuring reply.

I should add that the air-rifle needs to be brought from Delhi to Bangalore.

indian airlines should not be a problem as they are used to airguns and have their own team as well. make sure to carry club id if have one as its handy bit of kit. i do know that spice jet are ok. but take a look at their website for info.

Thanks Nags.

He will be carrying his club and NRAI IDs plus a photocopy of his arms licence just in case it is asked for.

All airlines do.
5000 rs is the charge one way.
Inform them earlier as there is a limit of one such piece on board a plane.

Thanks. Especially for the last bit. 10 and more years ago, there was no such restriction or fee.

My pleasure.
The charge started recently.
Also please factor in an extra 30 minutes for the formality of checking in the air rifle.

Thanks, A_N.

A form in triplicate is all we used to fill in the earlier days.
