welcome to IFG.

It is good to hear that you want to protect yourself. Most here advocate the maxim that never take a knife to a gunfight, and even better, it's better take a gun to a knife fight.

Merely possessing a knife,as with a gun, will not help. You need to train in the techniques and develop a mindset that would not hinder you from using those when the need arises. Without that, carrying a knife or a gun is going to end badly. My suggestion would be to do a lot research before you procure a knife or a gun. Do go through many threads posted on this forum and elsewhere.

I am not a knife expert but we do have many here. They will chime in with more specific replies to your question.

Best-
Vikram

thanx mates... sure will come back after doing some research!!
In between i dont think i'l encounter people with guns !! i like travelling alone , staying back on beaches during nights n stuff... as i do all these alone , i sometimes feel having a knife will keep me assured !! so that i can keep aside safety matters and enjoy the tranquillity!! so i still feel i need a knife!!

You did not get what Vikram said: carrying a knife when you are not trained to handle one always leads to owner damage. It's a guarantee the blade will be used against you. Those who come with an intent to rob you on a lonely beach are better prepared than you are. So first things first - get trained. You'd be better off taking a martial arts course to start with before moving to knife training.

Dear overlord,

It is never legal to possess a knife for self defence. Things will turn upside for you so quickly you can't possibly imagine. It is one thing to carry knives for purpose like camping or knife throwing or collecting but if you stab someone with that knife.... just focus on not getting raped while in jail for a count of attempted murder or assault. I don't want to be rude but I have actually seen a real life case of my uncle's. Don't step towards that directions.

If you really need self defense weapon then 'Laathi' is the best option in the whole world. It can be even a short staff but I prefer long staff as they can be used against too many people ganging up on you.

Ok

It happened to me when I was in hostel. I broke a ladder and fought with atleast 7-8 people which ganged up on my friend and my friend's girlfriend until others came to help us. His girlfriend could've been raped that day.
