30-06 has this nasty habit of bouncing off four legged creatures shot with it.I have been told that the reason for this is that it was designed to shoot two legged critters. It is ineffective on anything on four legs.It will bounce of even a rat.

Skyman,

A round can be lethal even beyond the 'effective range' given for it.

I don't doubt the lethality.I do doubt the fact that something can travel so far without hitting the ground. It was aimed downward after all.And i doubt boar hunting rounds travel that far without dropping off.
I would rather hit my target gently than miss hard.

Lets see:

A mile = 1760 Yards

A 750 grain .50 BMG bullet with a muzzle velocity of 2700 ft/s drops -1137.20" at 1800 yards. I.E. 94.75 feet drop! :D

There are other ballistics tables that give slightly different readings, but you should get the idea.

Theoretically, yes they drop 200 feet plus even.In practice however, i doubt one aims 90 feet above the target yeah? I should point out, this would have been after adjustments for wind etc.Not drop per se.

Let me put it this way - Aimed 3 feet above, after corrections.

Physics determine the trajectory of a bullet. Not what we think or what we believe about how the bullet flies. And, yes, you have to compensate for wind drift too. If you really wish to learn about ballistics, then do read some about it.

At that range they compensate for the rotation of the earth!

There are certainly many reference bullet bouncing of boar particularly. May be this road is at lower level than the place where shot is taken/reflected and vehicles velocity must have been added to fatality. by this assumption this incidence could be possible even it assumed 100ft drop of bullet trajectory.

They adjust their scopes to take care of the drop.
This allows them to be able to see the target through the scope.
The three feet that you are talking about is an additional adjustment made after the scope has been set to compensate for the drop.

Currently I am awaiting $100 million dollars a Prince in Nigeria has sent me,after I loaned him $100,000 to tide over a temporary financial crisis. The moment I get that money, I will buy it.

Correct, something i assumed was understood, but later clarified.
