please dont add grips! and love the way it curves ,excellent piece of craftsmanship!!it simply proves (no offence to the branded expensive things)that the knife is a tool first, then a glamourous thing later.this also means you can chop, throw ,dig and do numerous things ,without a stain on your conscience and wont even think of sacacrilage to those expensive ones!

You guys are lucky to have a smith who at least agrees to forge something. Here in Mumbai, the legitimate smiths just don't agree - it seems the cops collect records from them!!

Re: My new cleaver - attempted rambo machete
Real good piece kalashnikovcult, reminds me of british era army surplus machette which i bought long ago during 70s from CB (short for chor bazaar) mumbai, it was for some legal reasons, cut in a crude way to shorten its lenght but imprinted make 'sheaffield' & made in england was clearly visible. It had handle made of some primitive plastic bakelite which was flaking off, and copper riveting had turned green so i decided to remove the flaky material and copper rivets and replace the grip with electrical wire, the common thick wire used for electric wirings in homes. I removed the copper wires by pulling out using a plier, discard the copper use the outer covering, rolling this wire over the handle tightly & tying the loose end made a good grip but the realspark came from the idea of heating the handle gently till the wire became soft near melting point than press with a wooden flat piece, the wires fuse together forming a nice grip with parallel line design. Try it makes a nice water resistant non slippery grip.

Thank you very much for you compliment Manshah007, if you get a chance can you click your machete..i would be very anxious to have a look. I had been a CB fan too...had been there on my visit last year, dint find anything much interesting through.
I am also thinking to make a handle and get it buffed so that it shines up a bit . any suggestions for the handle ?

Re: My new cleaver - attempted rambo machete
well as of now i do not have the machete it has severed its purpose well but for rough handling and my carelessness it has been scraped long back, but the idea of wraping electrical wire & heating remained in my mind so my humble suggestion is just for experiment purpose wrap a thick wire of a colour of your choice & get the feel & look if you are satisfied go in for heating or else scrap the idea
