Kandarp, I would also advice you to stay away from assisted openers if you want the knife for everyday use. The ball bearings can get our of alignment after a period. I suggested Benchmade because the axis lock is very good and (others may differ and I am inviting any debate on this) is a little more secure than liner and frame locks. It is better to go for G10 handle and, if budget supports, S30v blade. The steel is the best in class and retains sharpness over long use. AUS 8 is also a very good steel.

Hi Kandarp, sorry for the late reply. Spyderco does not make assisted openers but all the folders suggested by Mack are very good. My prefernce in Spyderoc would be the Military or the Paramilitary. Once you can a hang of the blade, it can be deployed quite quickly. Assisted openers are not really required and I can't think of any good ones at the moment. As suggested by TCda, Bechmades are excellent value for money knives and the axis lock is fantastic. Check out Benchmade Griptilian, it is one of the most popular folders in the Benchmade stable and makes a great EDC blade.

Please avoid SW, they are not worth the money.

Folders are dirt magnets. Try operating a knife with an Axis lock or a Spyderco ball bearing lock after dropping it in muck and then come back and debate with me.

As for lock strength, anyone using a folder for heavy work is using the wrong type of knife. Get a fixed blade.

+ 1 ..... folders have their own use and in an urban scenario does not attract the wrong glances when carried as an EDC.

A pox on you guys! You have now got me looking for a nice folder until BRKT come out with their three models later in the year.

Kandarp, during my trawl through the net I came across a Benchmade 890 Torrent, which meets your requirements. Research it, if you like the design.

I've had a blade-tech pro hunter as my EDC for the past 3 years or so, and decided to get a benchmade 710 this summer to replace it, most likely with a D2 blade.

I am not a fan of serrated blades, though I have some cheap ones I use in the garden as they do seem to work better than most anything else for trimming plants and vines but otherwise I'd rather use a sharp knife.

Kandarp you could also take a look at Benchmade Osborne Axis 940... it has S30V blade with an innovative reverse tanto shape.

And, if you still want to go for an assisted lock .... look at Benchmade 470 Orborne Emissary ! Its got S30V blade and aluminum alloy handles and safety lock

Kandarp; Esee would be out with the Izula Folder. Mack has used all esee fixed blades right from the izula to the Jungalas. Having read the specs and having EDC'ed the Izula for quite some time now, the Izula folder would be a very nice buy.

TCda; The more you are trying to run away from these things, the more you are gettin into it. Like quicksand lollzzzzz.

Moin, the ESEE Izula should be good and I am interested. Does anyone know if it was released at SHOT? There's no mention on the ESEE forum as yet.

The 551 is an excellent choice ( and hey, they are quite sharp right out of the box), I have the standard model (154 CM) but with the Tanto blade, Choomabk had the H20 version, Slingshot has the Doug Ritter Edition another friend who's not active in IFG has the S30V version limited edition. The blade length is just about right for EDC, the knife is very light to carry.

I though reading Macks reviews and his extensive experience with Esee's and now seeing the benefits of carry a small fixed blade like Izula. The slim profile and the light weight make is very easy to carry and I carry one in my formal office trousers every day. Being clumsy like I am the chances of cutting yourself with a folder while opening or closing are reduced

And yes this is the folder which I and Mack are referring to, no one knows when it will be out in the market.

Hi Mack, just browsed looking for images of the BRKT folder. This bears a starking resemblance to the Sebenza. Is there a good link for reading more on these. Any idea on how much these would be priced ar around 250 or so ?
