TAVOR finally to be on sale in the US

Post by xl_target » Wed Jan 18, 2012 10:35 am

The TAVOR (TAR-21) will finally be made and sold in the US. Really looking forward to this.
A 16 in barrel in a compact bullpup package!
The Semi-auto version (TC-21) is most likely what will be sold here.

Note: if the Wikipedia images don't show up, wait till tomorrow. Wikipedia went dark for 24 hours to protest a new law being proposed in the US.

Nice, XL Thanks. Here are some more pics of the Indian SF with the Tavors. Does any one know why was this selected for the Indian SF over multitude of other options from H&K, Sig and the lastest and proven of the AK series of assault rifles which are known devils to the Indian Forces.

The Indian version is christened ZITTARA. Here is OFB link to details of this product;

http://ofbindia.gov.in/products/data/weapons/wsc/25.htm

One unique feature of the Zittara is that it can be used with 9x19mm and 5.63x30mm rounds with few modifications.

One factor to pick up Tavor over other could be Israeli acceptability to technology transfer and local production (INSAS does borrow somewhat from the Galil). This is obviously apart from technical and design aspects. Local production is always a strategic advantage and should be considered if competing arms are of more or less similar design capabilities.

Interestingly OFB also seems to locally manufacture a version of AK 47 when the press believes that army depends on captured AKs to equip counterinsurgency units.

friends,
TAVOR is quite smooth in firing, very light weight. out of my 80 rounds, in first go,53 were in bulls from 50 yards. it was fun.

PDN,

Thanks for the reply! Can you do a more detailed write up at some point? I am interested in your opinion of how firing a bullpup style rifle might have small yet noticeable nuances from a conventional rifle?

I've never fired a bullpup anything, to the best of my recollection so I'm curious.

Open sights?
I would rather hit my target gently than miss hard.

The Tavor is now here.

Wow! They went quick. All sold out. I'm sure there will be more available soon.
The price does seem a little steep right now.

XL, all the best....... hoping to see a Tavor in your armoury soon!

Saw Tavors with BSF guys in Kashmir last Nov....... BSF, not Special Forces. Fell to talking with one of them. His response was that the gun is extremely light and accurate (better than AKs or INSAS in his opinion). Being light, they could carry more mags on patrol, when they might have to walk 50-70 km over rough hilly terrain. Sadly, the guy (very nicely and politely) refused to pose for pics!!
Cheers!
