Re: Celebratory gunfire - a potential safety hazard!
There was a lot of time between 1998 and 2006 when the incident that I posted about and the PMs that you sent me took place. The incident was not restricted to poaching alone but to other violations that you are aware of from the original thread on the other forum.
My point was clear - stop playing a saint here. Again, I have no intention of equating accidents with actual crimes using firearms as has been done several times here. As far as the discharge of firearms in the air at celebrations is concerned, I have been at several Dussehra celebrations at the Mysore Palace in the 70s and, as I mentioned in Tbilisi. There was no injury at either. At Tbilisi they were shooting AK 47s to boot.
As far as the antis' arguments are concerned, I do not have any other option than to fight them wherever they are - whether it is on the pages of the Chicago Tribune or, for that matter, in places where I would not normally expect them to take place - on a forum that supports RKBA as it's raison d'etre.

Saint? Thought Val Kilmer did that act long time back.
What would I complain on?That a poster with an alias, claimed to be living in US, claimed on an INTERNET forum that he shot a leopard in India without giving a time frame? And I living in UK? Does it look plausible? What I knew of is already known to the authorities. Finito.
Re the rest, all that needed to be said has been done.Ladies& Gentlemen, thank you for staying with us.Hope the debate was of some use apart from the entertainment.

Re: Celebratory gunfire - a potential safety hazard!
I am originally from Pakistan, and the same sort of tragedies happen there too. People become overzealous at weddings, and foolishly start shooting with the barrel pointed at the sky. What goes up, must come down! Deaths from celebratory fire have become common at weddings, and the Lahori kite-flying festival of Basant.
Every gun owner should use his firearm responsibly, especially when s/he puts others life at risk.

Warrior,
If you are a shooting enthusiast and gun lover you have come to the right forum.
However would appreciate if you could post a brief about yourself in the Introduction and Welcome section.
It would make it easier going forward.
Welcome aboard in any case.
Cheers
Sanjay

Welcome aboard Warrior, Sanjay is correct - do take the time to post a brief intro in the relevant section. It'll help everyone get to know you a bit better and get the conversations going.
Just thinking aloud, but easily and cheaply available blank firing ammo could be a possible quick fix for making this tradition a less lethal one... Nothing can substitute for proper training in firearm safety and the responsible handling of firearms though!
Cheers!

Re: Celebratory gunfire - a potential safety hazard!
Hi Warrior,
I have some friends from Pakistan who also told me that many ppl fire with AK's during celebrations especially during weddings... Shots from shotgun scatters into numerous pellets which still can cause injuries when they come down but bullets can be fatal.. I think its a wrong practice to fire in air and if u so much want o celebrate with a bang then just use blank shots
Cheers
Mandeep
