Sujay,
Get the book "Manual Of Arms Law" written by Y.P.Dangwal(former officer of ministry of home affairs)published by Akalank Publications,Mori Gate,Delhi. It contains almost all the notifications issued.
Sanjay,
I always wanted to have look at that particular infamous notification banning small arms and airgun import by individuals but could not till today. I don't even know the notification number with certainty. Can you do something in this regard ?

Thanks Piyush,
I apprehend that once I get the book, the notifications of my interest might be missing. I asked the Govt Press in Malakpet Hyderabad but they cannot help without the number. Do you have the notification number ?

Well a decent Harley goes for $14000 approx so we can do the math... another trivia statistics average income of Harley bike owner is around $50000 per annum. Every year Harkey owners make annual riding pilgrimage to Sturgis SOuth Dakota in Fall. Well look out for desi Hells Angels..
Mehul
I was thinking about that emission thing, if its good for CA then its fine anywhere else what a rip off. Amen to pollution to in India. The desi mangoes will have a good challenge from Mexican ones looking forward to those varieties you listed.

Guys. In those good old days even if a premium existed, it was marginal because anyone with a valid License could import a weapon and the moratorium period was 3 years for selling the weapon. From the time import of firearms was banned till date different lobbies have been trying to get the ban lifted but nothing has come of it till date and it does not seem to be happening soon either so don't get your hopes up. Any news regarding the opening of import is just rumours and nothing else.
Cheers.

But a very sweet dream isn't it ? I remember the discussion we had regarding what members fancy buying if imports are opened again
I will admit that ocassionally I do dream ....... I have gone to the customs to take delivery my 0.22 LR and 10 boxes of ammunition. Then some IFG members get together for a field shooting trip with their toys ....
Arindam,
Who are those people interested in lifting the imports ? Might be a little ; encouraging neverthless.

Re: Import of Firearms to be reopened.
Arindam,
Agree with you 100% as the whole hype about guns being resold was forced down the country's throats by Indira Gandhi and her thugs.
Sujay,
It is a sweet dream that we do need to work hard to achieve. After all, after 1857, no one thought we would ever be independent. Yet, 90 years later, we were. In this modern age, if we make a concerted effort, we should be able to beat the tyrants and enjoy our freedoms again. Thanks for the "sweet dream" term.
Cheers!

Mehul/ Sujay/ Everyone,
The only thing that can make this possible, as well as freer gun laws overall - is public opinion! I have been posting on several India specific fora and have found that most people initially react negatively to the concept freer gun laws here negatively. But when reasoned with agree equally quickly that it may actually be what the doctor ordered!
The problem is largely ignorance - Indians have been denied the RKBA for more than a century, resulting in a populace that is largely ignorant and fearful of firearms, having had no first hand experience. Given a chance most would be enthusiastic shooters, but they have no opportunity.
I think Mehul's oft repeated idea of conducting airgun competitions with a low equipment and cost barrier would be the most practical first step towards introducing people here to the joys of marksmanship and gun ownership. There is no substitute for first hand experience to make people aware of what they are missing!
Once we have public opinion on our side, the political will to change the laws will surely follow...
Cheers!

Re: Import of Firearms to be reopened.
Abhijeet,
I agree with you completely on the need to revive the shooting sports in India by doing something that is affordable to Jaikishan/Jahangir Average. If we could promote something that is fun to people and affordable as well, it could be a superb way of getting public opinion to turn in favour of gun ownership. And, in India, politicians are scared of the people, as they should be in a democracy. If the wind blows in the direction of wanting more liberal gun ownership laws, I agree with you completely that this would certainly happen.
We do need to find a time and a place to start this and hope that our friends in the media would give this some positive exposure, if not as an exercise in promting RKBA, then as a fun sport. That exposure alone would help us immensely if this were organised and executed properly.
I do hope that we would be able to do this sometime soon.
Cheers!
