Rumor about Beretta Tomcat .32

Post by hardeepsinghbedi » Sun Nov 25, 2012 9:36 pm

Dear Everyone,

Please be careful about buying Beretta Tomcat .32 pistol as there are more than 100 pistols in the market. Some people told me that they did not come the right way. Please be careful before buying.

You mean they are copies/ fakes? Or that they may be smuggled/ black market pieces?

That could be said for most of the 'Brand New' guns manufactured after 1980 floating around in the market eventhough they have been imported legally through Transfer of Residence, change of ownership or resale is not allowed.

They could be the Legal imports with restriction to sale category but at the time of import manipulation of arms license not being stamped with this condition are known . These guns could be in the same category. However don't let the rumours get the better of you . One should do their own little background check before buying any gun.

I go with Capt. Sharma. If I am not mistaken a few days ago there was a query about the market price of Beretta Tomcat and some other pistol. And now this...

Dear Everyone,

Beretta Tomcat are smuggled in India with large quantity. Person who brings the weapon on TR cannot sell or transfer the weapon. Person can only check background with previous licence on which Tomcat was entrered bt some dealers make fake documents for this model.

@hardeepsinghbedi - with all due respect, that is utter rubbish! If any firearms were being smuggled into India in "large quantity", the prices would eventually drop! Anyone who has read even basic economics will understand that. Maybe some guns are indeed smuggled in AND "whitewashed" to dupe legitimate buyers, however I expect that almost all smuggled guns are sold in the black market. If I may so forward as to offer you some unasked for advice - don't believe everything told to you by arms dealers!

Most people may not be aware of this, but serving IFS officers are exempt from the provisions of the Arms Act requiring import licenses prior to import and therefore may import a firearm after each overseas posting without any restriction on sale. A lot of the NEW firearms that hit the market are imported through this route. Some of course are ex-renowned shot firearms, which cannot be sold/ transferred for 3-5 years (depending on the person maintaining his renowned shot status). But these are necessarily limited in number & type...

Cheers!

:agree: with mundaire.

A weapon of a particular make and model may have been legitimately been brought into the country by various individuals. The total number of such weapons in the country may be high. That should not automatically give rise to suspicion of illegal entry or smuggling unless there is positive evidence to this effect.

I don't think anyone is doubting whether you need convincing, hardeepsinghbedi.

The issue folks are responding to is that you haven't convinced anyone else...

I have informed everybody to be careful before buying this weapon and I don t have to convince people. Everybody got their own opinion. I got this information from some good source and I shared with every one. I love to have this weapon and when I checked the documents they were not good and then I dropped the plan to buy this weapon.
Dear Hardeep,

Thank you for sounding a warning bell. It would be helpful if you could spell out what exactly was not good about the documents you saw. Also what information you got from some good source.

Basically we would like to know what exactly is wrong in the way these weapons were brought into the country.

All the best.

I would also like to know the same.
