Britelite Challange Led Plus - mini review

Post by magnolia » Tue Nov 20, 2012 12:33 pm

Hi friends ,
I needed a good flashlight for my garden . So as few of you suggested , I consulted the company directly and being tempted at what they said , I bought one Britelite Challenge Led Plus at arund 4000 / ( though a fenix tk41 u2 is on the way ) .
Now see what the company had said about its " master piece " :
Out put - 1700 lumen
Throw - 2500 mts
I got stuck and thought that it must be min half of the declared as it does not follow ANSI etc. at all .

Lets see what I got as the company claim ;
Name - Britelite Challange Led Plus
Length etc - 13.5 inches long , 1.5 inch diametre , 3.5 inches wide head
Powered by - 3 Ni - Cad 500 mAh rechargeable cells
Led - 3W Led
Colour - black
Body - Aircraft Alluminium
Weight - 1.4 kg with cells

Now My Found Out - I have no other flashlight except Maglite 3 D led ( 131 lumen ) , Eveready commander ( 130 lumen ) , Eveready 4D led .
Britelite is with a tight hot spot , not soooo floody but wide beam and a little bit yellowish .
It is not very brighter than the Eveready commander . I think it is about 250 +/- lumen ( not 1700 !!!! I bet ) ..
An interesting fact came when I calculated the required candlepower for 2500 mts . Its ~150,000 cd and the flashlight seems merely 12000 +/- in comparision to Maglite that follows ANSI only .

Now throw !
I took my three flashlight to the near by field in the last diwali and measured the useful throw .
Maglite - 116 mt
Eveready commander - 96 mt
Britelite - 167mt !!!

What we , the people with really poor knowledge in flashlight , expect from a flashlight at such cost !
Good make , good throw , good flood (a good adjustment of flood and throw ) , good runtime , few modes , small , handy and light weight . But britelite challange led plus is not as its worth .There are few flashlights of reputed make at this cost ( fenix , streamlight , surefire , zebralight etc ) that seems better than it ( atleast ANSI data is to prove for their claim . )

If anyone asks me for a good flashlight , Ill never advice to go for Britelite challange led plus but even ask him to go for eveready 4d led / commander ( I think better if you think of cost 1/10 of britelite !! ) or for any flashlight from really good make .

Thanks .
