hi sumit,

i live in west delhi, though currently i am in cambridge, u.k. the gun stays home with dad in delhi, and whenever i make a trip home i make it a point to shoot a bit, if only to make sure it's still working.

would prefer to pm my address to you when you plan to turn up. i generally visit delhi in the winters.

all the best for your license! just out of interest, which stage of the licensing process are you at?

take care

M Sandhu
If it helps,I have had a Mehar Singh since1990,and have a fired a couple of hundred rounds. It works well havent had a problem to date.
At that time I did look at the IOF shotguns, only used ones were available,I personally found the look and feel of the Mehar Singh a lot better than the IOF ones up for sale.
IOF has since stopped production of the 12 Bore DBBL,but they did come with the pump action shotguns, which were in the market, havent handled one so cant comment.
I not sure whehter they are still available for civilian use.
Thanks
Sanjay

Hi Sanjay,
I have handled IOF pump action gun and its a pretty descent gun( though it lacks the charm of double barrel) and i am sure it will be good for home defence. So far the reviews i have got from some people who had Mehar Singh are also not bad. Thanks for your offer but my father had already bought one and though its little heavy than the guns we get here in US, it still serveres the purpose they bought it for..i.e rarely used for home defence only. For sporting purposes when you need to use it more regularly, as penpusher suggested, I would go for more reliable imported guns. Unfortunately, good quality imported guns in good condition are either hard to find or are too expensive in India. A gun that costs here around $700-800, costs more than $4000-5000 in India

Cheers
Mandeep

I know of only few Indian made shotguns. Mainly IOF , Mehar Singh & sons and few others. There are many manufacturers in Jammu and Monghyr (Bihar). Does anyone know which are best or good quality shotguns made in India and also what do they usually cost ?

"New Lite" Guns also seem to be pretty good.

Hi
i had seen one nice u/o with one guard posted in one of the banks, on my enquiry he told me that his father works for the Jammu factory and they manufacture that gun, it looked pretty decent, nice rib and good grip. I was not able to get any further info and even my interest some what died out as i blocked my license with damn cheap munger 28inch gun.
Bro Dsingh, do u know any dealer for that jammu manufacturer in delhi, whom i can get in touch.

O/U shot guns in India are manufactured by Modern Arms and Mehar Singh both Jammu based gun makers.
Any arms & ammo dealer might be able to help.
Call Faridabad Gun House nos listed in the directory on the forum and speak with Rajiv Sharma.
He might be able to help.
Best

Hi DSingh,
are you talking about shotgun ?? I haven't heard about a shotgun having a range of over 100 yards. The pellets might travel over 100 yards but the effective range is usually around 40-50 yards with full choke..I think only if you use slugs , you can get an effective range of 100 yards or more.. I am not sure if slugs are available in punjab or not... can u please let us know what kind of shot shells did u use to get a range of 170 yards ??

DEAR brother Mr sandhu it was 5 no british shot in 1987 it has 32 inch barrel even people with wide experience of guns could not beleve particular in case of indian gun at that time there was no ban on hunting in india and even we could believe it we reaised when we saw bird coming down on most occasions its pellets has crossed 150 yards we used in hunting when there was no ban now we practise it on hard targets it has strong hammers i wanted to sell it but dealer told me that it has life of at least 30-40 years and u won't get such a good gun in 2004 i bought doble barrel of same santakhoo gun works and it has crossed 90 yards awith 40 years old cartridges and with better cartridges it did went up to 120 yards dear brother iwanted to buy mehar singh or mandi manufaturers but going by the nature of metal iwent for it it is very accurate with LG cartridges my father who is excelent shooter and have hugh experience told me that an italian gun of1920 has same rangeonly minus point newer one is nonejecter yes old one has full choke there were in news one old person was killed by dacaots in haryana but he fired from his single barrel before dying killing one daciot from 150 meters about 4 years back my dealer friend told me that single barrel has larger range due to its choke my slbl has crossed 150 yards and with bad cartridges up to 125 which r more than 40 years old

Dear Dsingh, please take a couple of minutes to check if you made your post properly. Also, text speach without punctuation etc,is extremely difficult to understand for the readers. Thanks for your co-operation.

I agree with dsingh as i have experienced shooting 150 yards with my father's 32 inch IOF DBBL gun using LG, SG, SSG & AAA cartridges. There are still few guns which have a good range.
