Cutlery Fashion from France

I have always wondered how the French are able to create the magic of their signature cutlery. The clean lines. The absolute simplicity of their blades. There is a great deal of emphasis on usability and the ability to do daily tasks. At the same time, the style is unmistakable, even in the cheapest Douk Douk. The ability to stand out. To be sophisticated. The understated elegance of the work. The sheer magnetism of the blades.

Some of the Cutlers and retailers have elevated production cutlery to the level of charm that must be seen to be appreciated. Rustic yet chic. Haute Couture or Pret-a-Porter, celebrated vintage or plonk...it does not matter. These blades are all dressed and carry themselves well.

I am a big fan of the Opinel folding knives as well. I think they are one of the best values in a quality folding knife. In fact, I was carrying an Opinel #5 for most of the weekend while deer hunting.

My my chief, very soon you'll have enough of blades to open a museum. You know you should post a sepearte thread on the Uzbek Knife, now that you have a good camera and also scan and post the literature that came with it. That's one of the most awesome blades in your collection and I'm so envious ....

P.S: Infact chief you should make this thread into a traditional knife thread. Mack has already posted pics of the Laguoile folder, you can post of Douk Douk, Uzbek knife, Rampuri, someone can post of aruval, rampuri, I'm sure someone would have the Navaja as well along with a few snippets or links. That would be interesting.

Glad you guys liked it but it's a rather standard example and only cost Euro 60.00 or thereabouts in 2006/7. The really good ones will have you all teary eyed................when you see what they cost.
