Post by tenzing » Tue Oct 09, 2012 5:08 pm

Hi,
Would anybody know how much custom duty do we have to pay when we import compound bows.As per my international tracking it says" sent item to customs" since sunday morning ie: 7/10/12 and it has already been three days now. They have not got in touch with me yet.Do i have to pay when it arrives by Post?

Tenzing.

If I am not mistaken, sporting equipment gets hit for 17.5% to 20% duty. That might include the cost of shipping too. However, do not be surprised if you are told to pay a higher percentage as that is usually the case.

If you can get a letter from your archery association, you may only have to pay the lower percentage.

Postal Customs can take their time. You can check at your local Foreign Post Office or wait for either the parcel to arrive at your local PO or a Show Cause notice.

As the parcel is heavy, it will be sent to your local PO and your postman will drop a chit at your place telling you when to go pick it up from your local PO and how much money to bring in cash for the duty.

P.S.: Do not PM me such questions in future.
