Sharpening Stone
Dear Friends,
Purchased this Sharpening Stone from a local hardware store @ Rs. 125/-... I want to know... will it work to sharpen the survival/pocket knife... kindly advice...

Well I can think of only one way to find out!
The coarse side looks pretty coarse however, I would keep that side for axes and hatchets and just try the fine side for knives. Use a light grade of machine oil on the stone.

Norton and Carborundum are two of the best Indian companies that make abrasives. Their products are sold all over the industry for various applications.
It will definitely work but since this is a free hand traditional system you need to practice first.

And what better way to practice than to use that stone and a dull knife!

I would rather hit my target gently than miss hard.

Good going, Suraj.
As you approach the belly of the blade increase the angle slightly and then some more as you approach the tip. This will give an even edge grind along the entire length of the edge.
Practice slowly and maintain a rhythm and soon it will be become second nature.
