Now that you put it that way Vikram, it would seem folly. The M98 on the other hand, they haven't been torn up have they? Couple of people own M98's i think...?

Thanks

Thank you very much.Seems like a fool's errand, but all classics are.

The M1 Garand is a single-shot without the en-bloc clip, which is ejected when the last round is fired. Without it, you can only load a single round directly into the chamber. That is the drawback of the Mannlicher en-bloc system of loading. While a bit faster to load than with a Mauser-style stripper clip, without the clip the rifle becomes a single shot.

Vikram, do you mean there is no magazine capacity at all save the one chambered round?

Vivek, could you post pics/share details regarding ammo availability, maintenance, parts availability etc? Have you shot it?

Bowman- what do you think the asking price is?

Thanks
Hi Skyman,

I have already posted a picture of my dads rifle here http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... 85#p151770. As regards to ammo, its a 30-06, and ammo is aplenty. Maintenance is very simple, and there are many manuals available online that help you in a thorough strip of the gun and reassemble.
I have shot many rounds with the same, and the recoil is very less when compared with other sporting model 30-06 rifles.
Though it was originally a semi, it was converted to a single shot.

Regards,
Vivek

What about parts? Are they available in the south?

What parts are you specifically interested in? AFAIK, parts for any imported fire arms are very rare to come by.

I myself am on the lookout for en-bloc clip for my rifle. Even though the rifle is a single shot, I want to restore it fully as a show piece, complete with en bloc clips and a bayonet.

Regards,
Vivek

Lots of people own a .30 M1 Carbine, and I even saw a M1 Carbine in .44 Magnum at a Gun Shop somewhere in West Delhi. And in a picture from a newspaper I saw a Maoist Cadre carrying a M1 Garand.
