Anybody own WW2 rifles like M1,K98 etc in India? I wonder if they made it into the country before the ban in appreciable numbers? Would love to get a mauser someday.

I do know some members own 1911's and c96's.And someone owns a Nagant if i remember right? What about the M1, K98 does anyone own them?

I have seen people like you in motorcycle circuits they are always after the most vintage stuff......i think you are a vintage enthusiast but remember that you are willing to buy something thats old and mechanical....well brother its your cup of tea so you do the math.....
besides i have no references but as per my knowledge these mosin Nagants and Kar98k's are fairly available in US of A and if you can- than buy it from USA......otherwise you will end up buying it from a collector who will ask a lot of cash and keep this in your mind that the ammunition for these vintage weapons is also not manufactured in india so you will always stick to some one who can import ammo too

There is a member who owns a k98. Search for it. Plenty M1s around. Only, converted to single shot- non semi.

I saw a K 98 in 8x57 at a shop in January. It was in a fairly good condition considering its age. The dealer said that there is an increase in demand for these rifles as they are in full butt. :? they also say that one can get a good piece if one has the patience to wait for 5-6 months.

best wishes

M1 Garands there are aplenty.

Kar 98s are a bit more rare but you can still find a few mostly in the households of army men who fought in the great war.

I remember my uncle (mama) has an old Italian Carcano in 6.5x52mm. I first saw it with him when I was about 10 years old.

Baba, i'm looking for a Shogun :D Got one?

Vikram, do you mean there is no magazine capacity at all save the one chambered round?

Vivek, could you post pics/share details regarding ammo availability, maintenance, parts availability etc? Have you shot it?

Bowman- what do you think the asking price is?

Thanks

But if i ever did it will be a rifle not a shot gun...that too a 12 gauge....

I am much happy with a .22 that could fire accurately.....

Usually yes , but most importantly they cannot cycle like in semi mode. Has to be manually operated like a bolt-action.There could be many with the regular mag.

They are. I should have been more accurate. The clips used for M1 are called en bloc clips, almost like a detachable magazine. Stripper clips are different.

Ah yes, the four round double stack. An error on my part.So are the en bloc clips retained? What do you reckon is a better buy, an iof or an M1 in 30-06? Considering an M1 in good nick, also what do you reckon are the asking prices?

Thanks

No idea re the clips. No idea re the prices. Which would you buy? The IOF Sauer copy or an ex-service semi-automatic rifle that has been converted to single shot ? Have you hefted an M1? Answers should be clear to you.

Well the Garands go quiet cheap (comparatively). There are a lot of these if you want to hunt some in MP - Chambal area. There are some which still have the greenish parkerization on them but all have their gas systems punctured to render their self loading mechanism out of use (I wonder if this cannot be undone easily...but don't attempt this for obvious reasons). This makes them really cumbersome and clumsy to operate. I am also not sure if magazine clips are available and the M1 can be a pain to load without them.

The ones with green parkerization on them fetch a bit higher price. Generally you can buy M1s for much lesser than a imported bolt rifle of same caliber. Offer prices range around 70k - 1.5k max and from there onward a lot depends on how good a bargainer you are.

Other rifles like Kar98s, well interest in these has increased amongst people lately but these are really hard to find, as I said mostly heirlooms which people do not want to part with. I also did not hear any being sold/bought recently so cannot comment on this.

The Carcano, well something of that sort will be like scraping the bottom.

Thanks for the info bowman.

Now that you put it that way Vikram, it would seem folly. The M98 on the other hand, they haven't been torn up have they? Couple of people own M98's i think...?

Thanks
